  1. Regenerate QR-code upon opening IDML

Third party tools are able to edit the content of a QR-code. However, when opening the edited IDML, the QR-code image itself is not being regenerated until the user manually edit's the QR-code en saves it.

I would expect InDesign to regenerate every QR-code upon opening an IDML file.

Use case: translating IDML files using CAT software, where the content of QR-codes needs to be translated (another URL destination per language)

    InDesign Version: 17.0.1

    Steps to reproduce the issues:
    1. Create QR-code in InDesign.
    2. Export document as IDML.
    3. Edit QR-value directly in the IDML (value for UrlLink attribute…

  2. idml pasteboard

When exporting file from indd2020 to idml, the pasteboard automatically disappears. Whatever the pasteboard dimensions were before, it becomes 0,0 when converted to idml.

  3. Inner glow size reverts to default value

When saving as Idml all inner glow effects size reverts to default value. This has been happening in all versions as far as I can remember.

I have attached two screenshots, one of the Indd file and one of the Idml file.

    I am using version 15.0.2

  4. IDML Export Adding Feather Effect to Elements Randomly

After exporting .indd to .idml and reopening the file has gradient feather effect applied to linked elements. Even when there was no previous effect put on those elements.

  5. Exporting from Indesign. Default format is ALWAYS IDML

we are constantly exporting PDF's from Indesign to place in layouts. The last couple of updates, Indesign insists on having IDML as the default choice. It used to be once you export a PDF, the rest would default to the same format, but now Indesign just defaults to IDML every time & it is infuriating to open the folder that shud B full of PDF's and find one PDF & the rest IDML :>(

  6. InDesign CC exporting idml's with errors not found in the indd file

When packaging InDesign CC 14.0.2 .indd files, the resulting idml file has content frames jumping around. The resulting packaged indd file looks fine, but in the idml content frames have moved resulting in images being cut off and text boxes shift cutting off text.

Process is simply packaging a working indd file with no particularly special settings. Package with indd, idml and pdf. This doesn't happen in every file, maybe 1 in 100.

  7. Space converting to line break in .idml

Imported Word documents sometimes include invisible character Unicode 2028. In InDesign CC2018 and in Word it looks like a space. When exported to .idml and reopened in client's CS6, it is converted to a Forced Line Break, which is problematic. Can you set 2028 to convert to a space in .idml?

  8. "Preview images" not updated or created in certain circumstances

Description: The previews are not updated in the following cases:

    • When the file is saved in IDML file format (you need to save in in INDD format before)
    • When the saving options are changed (under "Preferences > File handling") and the file is saved. You need to save the file with another name or make changes in order to have InDesign updating the previews.

Basically, from our tests, the preview images are only generated when the file is changed and saved in INDD format.

    1. Version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy or InDesign Server
13.1 (but past CC releases were also impacted)

  9. InDesign won't finish export IMDL file. Hangs at 38% and must force quit program.

I can’t export to a file IMDL. The export process stops at 38% and won't finish. The problem is only with this file. Other InDesign files export to IMDL as expected. I have InDesign installed on 2 computers. One running win11 and one running win10. Same problem occurs on both machines. No errors reported on original file.
I have made a preflight file in other location and still get the same result. Preflight file attached as compressed archive. That can be downloded here https://drive.google.com/file/d/14pEyPRYOFQa20LUdoaqpaApQq1H2bTC_/view?usp=sharing

  10. InD 19.1 export to IDML extends conditional text

    1. InDesign 19.1
    2. Create a doc with several paragraphs of text. Apply a condition to, say, the 2nd paragraph. Export to IDML. Open the exported doc.
    3. The reopened file should look like the original.
    4. The condition is now applied to additional paragraph(s). However, if the condition is removed from the paragraph marker, the problem disappears. There was a similar problem about 10 years ago saving docs with conditional text. The conditions would exin the same way. This happened just with normal saving, not exporting.

  11. Conditional texts applied to wrong parts when exported to an idml

    1. Version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy or InDesign Server: v17.4.1 x64

    2.Steps to reproduce the issues:
Export an Indesign file with conditional text settings as an idml file and open the idml file in the InDesign application.

    1. Expected result
Conditional text settings are applied to the same paragraphs and texts as the InDesign file from which the idml was exported.

    2. Actual result
Conditional text settings are applied to unexpected paragraphs and texts! Seems like this only happens when one or more of the condition is displayed and does not happens when all the conditions are hidden...

  12. trados idml version

    Hello!
We export the idml file from indesign 2022. We must later open the file in Trados for its translation and it doesn't let us because it identifies it as a cs4 file. With indesign 2021 it also happens, but not with previous versions, with which Trados opens them correctly. Can you help us?

  13. Bug report: Incopy idml files does not show up in assignments palette

    Indesign - Incopy
I can’t handle multiple idml files in the assignment palette/InDesign.
It could be related to system update installation - the problem appeared right after installing MacOs Ventura.
I can only drag one or two - not three or more - text objects into Incopy assignments in a Indesign document. It produces idml-files, but they are not shown in the assignments palette. Editing ‘Add all stories to assignment’ does not work either.
Does anybody have an idea what I can do to solve it or I have to wait for a bug fix?
Screendump example uploaded.

  14. idml letter spacing

    Hi Team ID,
We love the IDML export because we can send that to our translation office and get close to final-artwork-files back. But we realized paragraph and character styles which include letter spacing values do not have letter spacing any more after export. Can you fix this please?

    Thank you

    TA

  15. Issue in saving multi-page PDF as IDML

    Hi,

I placed multipage PDF in InDesign and embedded the links.

Then I haved the document as IDML, so all the pages are getting replaced with the first page of PDF.

    For example I have a PDF (test.pdf) having 4 pages, then links will be : test.pdf, test.pdf:2, test.pdf:3, test.pdf:4

But after saving it to IDML, links are getting converted to test.pdf, test.pdf, test.pdf, test.pdf. Means page number is getting lost from the link.

And all the pages will have content of 1st page only.

  16. Idml save as/pdf export location should be relative to the location the file was opened from.

The bugs are recurring after every other update. It's really aggravating since the updates you bring to the build hardly feel like they add useful tools or new functionality. However, the bugs keep returning randomly on different updates. Your standard recurring update bugs are taking a toll on my work quality and speed because they are slowing me down. this is not justifying the monthly fee I am paying. At this point i'd be willing to pay you the monthly subscription to go home and leave the program alone.
Make a checklist of the bugs that keep coming back and…

  17. Index not listed correctly after converting IDML file to INDD

When I convert INDD files to IDML, and then I convert those again in INDD the index file disassembles completely the layers.

It seems to happen from the third level like in this example:

    Chapter 5

    5.9
    1.1.1
    1.1.1
    1.1.2
    1.1.2.1
    1.1.2.2

How can I avoid that, and let the Index keep the right list from the first conversion?
