Simple text editor for mobile devices
I would love a simple text editor - something not so function-focused as InCopy. Something where i can be interviewing someone and take down quotes. Or if I'm inspired at a restaurant - to pull out my ipad or my phone and just start writing. And then have that text autosave as a cloud document for when I'm back at my desktop.
Sort of like Premiere Rush, but just for text. Copy Rush?

Add shortcut key option to Find/Change functions
When I'm making lots of changes to a document, I have to use my mouse and click "change" with it to make the change. It would be so much nicer if I could assign shortcut keys to "find next" and "change". This way, I could go through all of my documents and fix the things that are necessary simply by using two keys. Using the mouse this way strains the wrist/fingers on a large project.

Dropbox missing links error
If links are not available (because they are only online in the dropbox), please provide 1 error message. And not a window that must be clicked for each individual image.
If you have to search older (archive) Indesign files (with hundreds of links), you will be endlessly bombarded with: "Error encountered while reading TIFF image. Image may be damaged or incompatible..."

Keep InDesign in background while creating PDF (or any task), unless input needed for alert or error.
Mac OS, ID 18 (2023). While outputting a PDF or some other process that can take some time, I often switch to a different task -- but InDesign will make itself pop to the front multiple times partway through the process, usually without any input needed from me. Is necessary to switch back to the other program I am using again and again. The disruption wastes time and sometimes causes problems because I was in the middle of typing or moving the cursor when the window unexpectedly switches.

"Search tool " as we have in ArcGIS software...
Looking for some specific tool is daunting especially for newbie....So if you could add "search tool" somewhere it would be easy for look up for specific tool and see the difference.
I have used in ArcGIS software the same feature.
Thank you very much.1 vote -

command+s issue
Command+s does the same thing as command+shift+s when saving files that were created in an older version of indd. It creates a dialogue box and a "are you sure you want to overwrite"
This is a useless (expected, i have been told by support) behavior that only slows things down when revising large amounts of files.
Its because it updates the file to run smoothly, but who would then not want to save it into the updated version? command+s should just overwrite/create the new version file automatically. If need be there could be a warning dialogue the first time with…

Save-able drop shadow settings
You should be able to SAVE Drop Shadow settings so as to be able to add them to a future object with a single click. Those of us who do publication-length work often want to add drop shadows to multiple objects over many pages. Your needs rarely match the defaults, nor each other (drop shadow settings are very context sensitive and depend on size of the object, background contrast, etc.). Please make it so that I can save customized Drop Shadow settings in an object, and then apply to another object with a single click.

Option for Unit & Increment preferences to be application wide not document specific
I realize the value in units being document specific but I would like the option to make it application wide. I work with another department and while they need the document to be in picas I need it to be in inches. It would be nice if I didn't have to manually change the preferences every time I received a document back from them.

Hebrew Help files still uses the term Master instead of Parent
Under "Work with parent pages" in Hebrew Help for InDesign, while there is a note explaining the change in the term Master page to Parent page, not only it wasn't fixed in the text, the word Master is written in Hebrew letters. This is absurd.
The correct term in Hebrew is
דף-אב
which in fact means Parent-Page to begin with. It was always non-inclusive language. In the attached screenshot the words Master in Hebrew are marked.1 vote -
Find/Change saved queries: dividing line should be visible
Currently, when Interface preference is set to dark, one can barely see the dividing line in the Find/Change saved queries dropdown. The line should adapt to the interface setting, providing full contrast!
But better yet, the whole thing needs a structural revamp, allowing an easy-to-use user-customized FOLDER STRUCTURE and easy export/import/backup.

Rename "flush space"
Rename the "flush space" to something more representative; suggest "flex space," "flexible space" or "expanding space."
This element was named in the narrow sense of allowing the last line of a justified paragraph to expand fully to the right margin. With the more obvious and accessible option of "full justification" this purpose of the space element is diminished, and it has use in other ways such as auto-spacing multiple words or phrases across a single line.
Renaming this feature, with no other changes, would make its purpose and availability more apparent to all users. (Even as an ACP/ACE and 20-year…

PDF Comments: Apply comments, of type Strikethrough text, that has a text comment attached, with same behaviour as comments of type Replace
When making comments in Acrobat Reader, clients often use the Strikethrough-type and add a text comment, when they really should have used the Replace-type comment.
Strikethrough-comments with text, could be applied with the same behavior as Replace-comments.

Text/Object Effects Preference Settings
I cannot find an option to do this, and Googling it results in no results.
I often find myself using the Effects options, especially Drop Shadow, on my text and arrows when creating user guides. I like to use very specific settings when doing so, and I like it to be consistent across the entirety of my manuals. However, I have to manually enter these settings in when creating new text boxes or objects, and I cannot find a way to make it so that my desired settings are saved for later use. It would be very useful and time…

Instead of allowing objects to leave the pasteboard, just move them to the edge of the pasteboard
I often place and then resize images in InDesign. Very often when I go to resize an image, I get the error "This would cause one or more objects to leave the pasteboard" and I can't actually resize all the way down to a manageable size—I have to move the entire image somewhere random and try to resize, or just resize in increments, move the image, and resize again.
I understand that I don't want objects to leave the pasteboard. But if an object is about to leave the pasteboard, why can't it just move to the edge of the…
