Enable Animated/Scrubby Zoom
Add the animated/scrubby zoom feature for PC users--it's time. It's ridiculous Photoshop and Illustrator has it, but not InDesign? Since Mac users are given tools PC users don't have, perhaps Adobe should discount our subscription fee.

Honestly. This is the worst thing about InDesign as a recently migrated artist from Illustrator and Photoshop. I've never liked the marquee zoom.

Just found how to switch to marquee zoom:
Preferences/GPU Performance/Animated zoom."Does anyone know how to have marquee zoom as the default in Indesign 2020? I don't like srubby zoom and cannot find the check box to turn it off. Help please!"

Just why? It ruins everything!

Pretty lame that "Scrubby" Zoom works perfectly fine in Photoshop and Illustrator on Windows 10, but InDesign gets left out...
why though? that's all I want to know -

It's late 2020 and we still need this.

I signed in the Adobe chat and received the absurd response from the attendant: Mac users are more designers than windows users.
Adobe, please just explain to me why there is no such feature in indesign for windows!

Its beyond infuriating and so destructive to my workflow. I go back and forth from Photoshop to Illustrator and InDesign all the time, and not having animated zoom in InDesign is horrible. There's no reason for it. https://www.selfgrowth.com/articles/how-to-get-good-rankings-in-google-images-for-seo

Yes, we need proper Animated "Scrubby" Zoom back. To those below that keep saying, "Here's how to do it…", know that you are using a Mac, where it works. There are not those same settings/options on Windows at the moment. If I remember correctly, we used to be able to do this one Win, but not anymore. Lame. Can't be too much more demanding of a system to animate zoom for InDesign as it is in Photoshop and Illustrator, and it's possible there.

There is an animated zoom feature for PC. If you hold Alt and scroll, this will behave just like animated zoom on Mac. I accidentally found this out because Adobe XD uses the same function for their zooming.

This has been requested since 2017 with no comment, and this is one of the most basic and urgent features - especially considering the fact the Photoshop and Illustrator - which are tightly linked to InDesign - do have this feature.
Illustrator should have the option for Scrubby/Animated zoom.
If I'm not mistaken, this already exists for Mac users, but not for PC users. This is beyond frustrating and should be at least addressed by an Adobe representative.
Thank you, and I hope this will be fixed soon.

Any update/progress on this? The disappointment is starting to get tiring seeing the marquee selection every time I switch back to INDD from other apps. I mean, when using the hand tool and holding/releasing the left click has a similar function... just give us more control there. That's all. It doesn't have to be perfect. Just do a rough roll-out (maybe in a beta channel feature)... I won't judge, I promise. It just kills my momentum, which migrates all my copy-heavy layout projects over to other apps that offer me that flexibility.

Turn this OFF as a default install feature, it's ridiculous.

I'm going to restate RAVEN here: Under "Indesign in the upper left corner," drop down to Preferences>GPU Performance - Uncheck "Animated Zoom"

I imagine there is some logic to how you set up preferences over at Adobe, but seriously... an interface setting like animated zoom is under GPU performance?!

How is this still not fixed?! There is absolutely no reason for it. Its either laziness or something underhanded.
