Continue footnotes numeration
Add the possibility to continue footnotes numeration over different stories. For example, continue footnotes numeration on different chapters of a book, where each chapter is one independent file.

I share these comments. Adobe needs to change the way footnotes are handled. Footnotes should be able to continue numbering across all documents within a book - this would allow splitting a large document into smaller piece. I also have clients that want use the same number footnote on other pages/documents (i know this makes it confusing)

I'm having such a hard time working around this nonexistent feature. I really hope adobe hears our cries.

Have there been any updates to this? I'm still struggling with continuing footnote numbering from one chapter to another.

It is really annoying that InDesign does not import correctly the footnotes of MS Word documents and is still unable to generate a continuous numbering of footnotes in the different chapters of a book.
Thank you to rapidly implement this basic feature! -

Please, add this feature, for my work this would be a life-saver! I am working on technical books with lot of footnotes, where dividing text into smaller sections is a MUST (otherwise even simple operation like deleting one character result in a reflow of text in the rest of 600+ pages and of course it takes some time.)

Please add this feature in book files and different story files, based on paragraph style for example. When we have a document with 700 pages with more than a thousand footnotes… it's complicated to work well with the document… Thanks!

Footnote numbering should be able to continue from one story to another, based on the document layout - page after page. Even if pages 1-5 is one story and pages 6-10 - another story, the footnote numbering should be able to continue from page 1 to page 10 consecutively. This is a requirement for multi-person collaboration workflow - you can't send them the whole file every time - but only one story. When this story arrives back, the footnotes should just update the numbering within the overall document.

PLEASE add these features to the footnote and endnote functionality of InDesign:
- Continuous numbering of footnotes and endnotes throughout the various indd files within a book document
- Ability to put the endnotes of the different indd files within a book document in a separate .indd file at the end of the book; numbering continuous OR per chapter. -

This requirement is so obvious, that seems not adding it means you have never ever read a book with footnotes... many books use them and many of them are continued footnotes across all chapters... please add this feature...

Guys please add it .... how in earth you didnt think of that!!!

Please please! Editing for consistent footnoting, when a book tracks and updates page and chapter numbers automatically, makes the program experience feel incomplete and inefficient. It has also made it harder to convince others on my team to use this product. They're sticking with word.

The ability to continue footnote numbering across stories, please

We also like to have continue footnotes (numbering and placements) within different stories in the same chapter.
@Adobe: Could you please update whether this can be fixed in InDesign quickly?

Oh my gosh, I am going through hell, right now, because InDesign lacks this feature.
I have to lay out multiple stores within a single doc, and the footnote numbering needs to be continuous from story to story. But, as far as I can tell, the Book feature numbering isn't up to speed with multiple stories within a single doc.
