Folder for Layer
It would be very helpfull if we can group Layers or make Folders like in Photoshop.

This is extremely frustrating. I seem to remember a time that this function was available on the stand alone software versions a decade ago. Why it would be removed is unfathomable.

It's hard to believe something this useful still hasn't been done – nearly 5 years later!
As others have said, it has been proved to be extremely useful the way it is implemented in Photoshop and makes complex files a lot more manageable, so can we please have the same implementation in InDesign.
PJ, no, this doesn't work because when you group files, they become one "object." This makes trying to align other objects a complete pain because they only align to the group and not the individual objects within the group. As a design-centric program, this feature is sorely lacking.

yes indeed, very useful if implemented! and conditional layers too, manageable in export.
I have been hoping for this feature for years.
I love being able to segment layers into folders in Photoshop, but really wish I could do the same in InDesign. This feature would save both my time and my sanity. When I am working on large, graphic rich brochures, I can easily have over a hundred layers. It would be so nice to have a folder for each page spread. I can expand the folder for the spread i am working on while leaving all the other folders collapsed.
I don't know how difficult this will be, but I am confident you will make a lot of users very happy if you can include this feature.
It would be a really useful feature! I often work on documents that are published in different languages and I have for example a set of English layers, the same set of French layers etc
Please add this. I am a digital scrapbooker. I'm attempting to do all my books in InDesign and not jump over to Photoshop to complete them. I design books with up to 100 pages. Each page has average of 5 pics plus about 20 other elements. It would be fantastic if I could group the layers for each page or each spread. Each page has 3 layers. Grouping objects is not as effective as being able to create groups of layers.
it would be very helpful
This is a very vital function for keeping a project organized in the layers tab - what would the reason be to not have this feature available. I cant think of one?
Yes i totally agree
Please add the option to put layers into folders. I can't believe this feature isn't available across the board by now.

This is what I need!

I actually joined this board to suggest the grouping/nesting of layers but have just seen this. Sorry PJ but the suggestion that Photoshop functionality can be emulated by grouping layers with cmd-g doesn't actually apply to the whole layer, it only applies to objects which have been grouped and then placed on a layer.
What I think Sam means, and I certainly do, is for Indesign to have layer nesting ability in the same way that Photoshop does, for instance this example I've indicated here:
I have a point of sale image here, it has a common background and separate layers for Adidas shoes and Nike shoes just to illustrate the point. I would like the ability to drag the Image and Price layers into the Brand named folder, as you can with Photoshop.
Hope that's clear because this function would certainly help me organise my files better.
Thanks in advance

To add to this comment : IF multiple items (from diff layers) are grouped THEN they should STAY on their own layer, NOT jump to one layer for the group.
PJ G. What you are showing is not the same. We need things to stay on different layers, but SELECTABLE as a group. Selection is a big part of the time you spend on a job.

Hi Sam, Photoshop folder functionality can be emulated by grouping layers (Ctrl + G by default), unless I'm missing something?
