  1. Improve Title Case

When sentence case is added to the paragraph styles panel, please add a place where we can list a set of words to be omitted if they appear after the first word. For example: and, the, a, an.

  2. Add all case options to styles menu. Styles missing lowercase and sentence case.

For whatever reason the lowercase and sentence case options are available from the top menu under Type, but are not enabled in the paragraph style options. Please cross-enable the features. I recently had a client change the ingredients in a 200 page recipe book from sentence case to all lowercase. I ultimately ran a find and replace by style using GREP code, but it would've been much easier and more efficient to be able to build this into the styles.

  3. Add ability to name Grep-styles

Add the ability to name or grep-styles.
Grep queries are not human friendly, and it can be hard to "read" and understand them. A option to label them would be great.

  4. Table of content – Styling improvement

    1) Please make the TOC dialogue box scaleable: especially the include paragraph styles box is unmanageable (long names are not visible and after applying settings to a style it scrolls back to the top of the list)
    2) Please include option to strip or override character styles in TOC
At the moment you need a lot of paragraph styles to set up the TOC, especially when having multicoloured headlines, both in document and TOC
    3) Please give text boxes an option "include in TOC" (helpful when having the same headline on several pages) and the option to enter alternate wording…

  5. Advanced Paragraph Shading Options

    1. The ability to specify a specific measured width for paragraph shading in pica, inches or whatever is the standard unit for the document.
    2. The ability to extend shading through continuous paragraphs. (i.e. If two consecutive paragraphs have the same paragraph style (with shading) that there is no gap between the paragraphs. Currently you have to use offset to extend these.

  6. Separate the 'Merge Consecutive Borders and Shading' option into two

Currently in InDesign CC2019, if you have paragraph styles with the same 'Paragraph Border' and 'Paragraph Shading' settings, these will merge with consecutive paragraphs if the appropriately-named 'Merge Consecutive Borders and Shading with same Settings' options is set.

But what if you want to have consecutive paragraphs with the same border, but different shading, or vice versa? No options allow this.

I suggest that the 'Merge Consecutive Borders and Shading with same Settings' option is split into two; 'Merge Consecutive Borders with same Settings' under 'Paragraph Border', and 'Merge Consecutive Shading with same Settings' under 'Paragraph Shading'.

    Having the two…

  7. External Paragraph Styles (to keep all documents in sync easily)

I would like to have external paragraph styles (and other styles too) so that they can apply to multiple documents and keep all documents using them in sync with the same set of styles.

  8. Paragraph Border Controls when Split across Columns or Frames

There needs to be a control that "If paragraph breaks between columns or frames" restricts the paragraph border to: "baseline" , "cap-height" and perhaps a value offset for this. At the very least there needs to be the "clip to frame" option for paragraph border like there is for paragraph shading. However, the controls for baseline and cap-height would be ideal.

  9. Apply object style to a group

It would be nice if I could apply an object style to grouped objects. Especially useful when using only the position functions.

  10. Add to TOC checkbox for Paragraph Style Options window

While working on a project with lots of styles it will be hard to decide all the styles on TOC window. It will be useful to select TOC styles on Paragraph Style Options window.

  11. Type and select style from drop down list

Need to type and select the style from the drop down list. Currently we need to find and select the style using mouse scrolling. It will take time when we have lots of paragraph, character styles in InDesign document. Do this for all the drop down list available in InDesign palette. For example, we need to delete a style and replace with another style.

  12. New "Justification Auto-Correct" Feature

Justification, while pleasing to the eye from the perspective of an entire page, creates problems. Hyphenation can correct this, to some degree, but it too has its problems. In the end, when justifying text, certain lines of text end up being scrunched while many others leave wide open spaces between words.

In doing my best to correct for these problems, I tend to make most use of the horizontal scale feature. I often find that most of these visual blemishes (scrunching or overly-wide word spacing) can be corrected by either reducing the horizontal scale down to about 97% (in the…

  13. Copy FX

Copy / paste layer FX would be very helpful... Much like the Copy Layer Style of PS.

  14. GREP: Add character style and paragraph style codes

Add GREP match code in Search/Replace for specific styles with something like:
    (CharacterStyle:[StyleName])

  15. Section specific controll of the "based on" featues in paragraph styles

Add a checkbox to each menu under the paragraph style options, to let the user *check* if a set of options should be inherited or overwritten.

A bit like the way we define specific *live* attributes when creating object styles.

The goal is to give the user greater control and insight into what attributes are overwritten, and easily add/remove/change them.

  16. Customizable Keyboard Shortcuts for Paragraph/Character Styling with Mac bluetooth keyboard.

I've seen other people post elsewhere about this same issue and request. As a Mac user with a bluetooth keyboard, I'm unable to establish customizable keyboard shortcuts for paragraph/character styling. The field in the style menus is available, but for some reason it cannot be used without a separate number panel on your keyboard(?). Making this feature accessible for bluetooth keyboard users would surely save on a lot of time with projects with tedious styling.

  17. Style hierarchy

It would be nice if you could easily see as one of the views of styles (paragraph, character, and object) a hierarchy of which styles are based on each other. Like a cascade of styles. I work on long documents and books that use LOTS of styles and besides the normal view and alphabetical view, it would be nice to be able to "sort" by hierarchy, perhaps with the swivel arrow, like when you have different styles in grouped folders. For instance, we have "text" and then "text left" and "text centered," and so on, but they are all based…

  18. paragraph shading borders align to / away from spine

Add the ability to have paragraph shading and borders align to / away from spine. Also make it possible to have each corner affect individually align in relation to the spine.

  19. Allow a character style to be a percent of the paragraph it's in

For example, I have a style at 12 points for a paragraph and need to place in it a couple of glyphs from a different font, but at 11 points. If I could say character style X is 96% of paragraph style Y, that would be great.

To my fortune every instance of my "different" 11 font has been surrounded by the same 12 paragraph, but if I had to use this elsewhere at a different size, I'd have to have another character style for that new size.
