  1. Add all case options to styles menu. Styles missing lowercase and sentence case.

For whatever reason the lowercase and sentence case options are available from the top menu under Type, but are not enabled in the paragraph style options. Please cross-enable the features. I recently had a client change the ingredients in a 200 page recipe book from sentence case to all lowercase. I ultimately ran a find and replace by style using GREP code, but it would've been much easier and more efficient to be able to build this into the styles.

  2. Creation of Table of Contents — Adjustable size of the interface window (width and height)

Creation of Table of Contents — Adjustable interface window (width and height)

When working in huge and very complex documents — with dozens and dozens of paragraph styles and very complex table of contents —, the limitations of the interface window are rather annoying. The window cannot namely be expanded to have a better view of the selected styles.

The number of visible styles is namely limited to four (see screenshot). And the width cannot be adjusted either.

It would thus be a considerable improvement if the window size could be customized in order to have a much better view…

  3. Store the state of a style group, open or closed, when saving a document

    Current state:
If I open a style group in a styles panel, save, close and reopen the document all style groups are closed by default.

    Feature modification request:
Save the state of a style group, open or closed, when saving a document.

This should be done to all panels that allow for style groups.

    Regards,
    Uwe Laubender

  4. External Styles / Style Libraries to push Style updates dynamically and automatically to all documents.

Please develop some kind of External Style file format, that can be applied locally, and hopefully, via the cloud. But at least locally, PLEASE.

It is a crime that InDesign currently has NO WAY whatsoever to keep multiple documents styles synced. I run into this deeply frustrating problem all the time.

Currently, If I create a template file with some styles, and use that to create documents, and then If I update or refine paragraph styles, character styles, table styles, etc — there is no way for me to easily carry over those same styles to all other documents that…

  6. Object Styles: text frame color fill and stroke options

The current problem is that applying an object style with a stroke applies to everything within a group (photo B in screenshot). I want to be able to create a style that applies a stroke to the image but not the caption text box (photo a in screenshot).

One solution might be: Text frame options within object styles having their own stroke and fill options.

  7. Be Able To Apply Color to Text And Object Style Definitions and Sort Them By Color

I work with a large number of paragraph, character and object styles. Even though I can order them alphabetically, it's still tedious to find the right style since the panel is so small. Grouping them is another option but I find it just adds another level in the hierarchy and adds to the already crowded assortment of styles.
It would be nice if I could assign a color to 1 or more style definitions and also be able to Sort By Color.

  8. Find all instances of a Paragraph Style

Find all instances of a Paragraph Style in a document via the Paragraph Styles panel. Like you can see with Links, be able to view the pages that the styles exist on and jump to these pages by clicking on the page number in the panel or be able to navigate through them with up and down arrows

  9. Select multiple, discontinuous paragraphs

When applying paragraph styles throughout a document, it is only possible to select multiple continuous paragraphs in one go. If I want to style all first level headings, for example, I have to click on each, apply the paragraph style and repeat and repeat and repeat... Often finding the appropriate style requires scrolling in the paragraph styles window. It would be very useful, and much quicker, to be able to select all headings and apply Head A (or whatever) in one click. This might be achieved by clicking in the paragraphs with a keyboard combination pressed or, as was done…

  10. Option to apply object styles on document import.

We should have an option to apply object styles on import. There used to be a script that would do this but it isn't updated anymore. The ability to load a place brush and choose an object style for each page as i place them would be a tremendous time saving workflow for importing long documents. If we could somehow build that into "multi-page Importer" that would add pages to my document on import, too, it would be perfect.

  11. Nested Styles - Add more options to apply them to END of a paragraph

When creating a nested style, the only options we have for its activation point are [through] or [up to] . This means they're designed to have an affect only at the START of a paragraph, and to work only from left to right. This is very inflexible, and it's frustrating to work around, especially if we want particular style variation to occur somewhere at the END of paragraph.

It would be really helpful if in addition to the two existing options, you added ones like [after] or [after first instance of] or [after nth instance of] or [before last instance…

  12. Offer "set number value" for a numbered list item

Could you make it possible to right-click a numbered list item so that we can make it start at any number we like?

  15. underline outdent/indents

The border and rules have options to outdent or indent, but the underline style does not. Sometimes you need a character style to highlight a word, and the only way to do that is with the underline style. It doesn't look great when there is no space on either side of the highlight, so you need to add extra spaces before and after the word. Can this be added to the underline style options?

Maybe it should be a new feature called ”highlight.” It would work like Microsoft Word but with options.

  16. Add ability to name Grep-styles

Add the ability to name or grep-styles.
Grep queries are not human friendly, and it can be hard to "read" and understand them. A option to label them would be great.

  17. Table of content – Styling improvement

    1) Please make the TOC dialogue box scaleable: especially the include paragraph styles box is unmanageable (long names are not visible and after applying settings to a style it scrolls back to the top of the list)
    2) Please include option to strip or override character styles in TOC
At the moment you need a lot of paragraph styles to set up the TOC, especially when having multicoloured headlines, both in document and TOC
    3) Please give text boxes an option "include in TOC" (helpful when having the same headline on several pages) and the option to enter alternate wording…

  18. Utilize paragraph shading for text messages with improved functionality

The new paragraph shading feature would be fantastic to use for laying out text message conversations in books, but needs a few tweaks to make is fully functional. Text messages in books is becoming very common.

It used to be that you had to create shapes and anchor each in for a text message. Now you can use Paragraph Shading defined in the style for left side texts with no adjustments, but because right side text messages need to have the "bubble" shape aligned right, but the interior text left aligned. My solution is (see sample file):
    Create three base…

  19. Reset to base for one single parameter of a paragraph/character/etc. style

I wish there was an easy way to just reset one specific parameter of a style to base ([ignore]).

    For example:
I have paragraph style p2 which is based on p1. I previously overwrote the Font Style of p2 but now I decided to change it back to inherit the Font Style of its base style (p1). It would be nice to have some way to do that only for the Font Style. Not for the Font Family or Size or any other parameter. Maybe by option–, cmd- or right-clicking on the parameter's name...?

  20. alt/option + new style

When you want to create a new style and have the window pop up immediatly, you have to alt+click on ne "new style" button.
The window should pop up when you simply click the "new style" button. This should be the same for other panels such as the swatches panel.
