Add "Unmap All" to Map Tags to Styles
In the Map Tags to Styles popup panel, please supply a "unmap all tags" button. Sometimes we use the tags to prestyle text, but then apply manual overrides, and want to retain the manual overrides when importing new XML. We currently have to manually remove all mapped styles from the tags before doing that, which can be very tedious when working on large numbers of documents.

Different corner options?
How about creating a method for users to define new and/or different corner options?

Ability to set Style Override Highlighter as "on" or "off" in preferences
Currently the Style Override Highlighter [+] in the various styles panels functions as a toggle on a per app basis, not as an "on" or "off" preference setting. This means it can't be set on a document by document basis, as enabling it will actually toggle the setting to "off" if a user has the setting switched "on" in their copy of InDesign.
Would greatly appreciate the ability to set this as a normal InDesign preference - ie one that can be set at application/document level, the same as almost every other setting in the program.

External Paragraph Styles (to keep all documents in sync easily)
I would like to have external paragraph styles (and other styles too) so that they can apply to multiple documents and keep all documents using them in sync with the same set of styles.

Possibility of defining several alternative Font Styles in one Character Style
Possibility of defining several alternative Font Styles in one Character Style.
E.g. Character Style: Italic
Font Style: Regular Italic OR RegularItalic OR Italic OR ItalicRegular OR Italic RegularCurrently working with two families of fonts, one of which has italic defined as Italic and the other as Regular Italic, this is impossible. You have to define two character styles and search the whole text.

SVGs / AIs and Graphics as bullet points
It would be nice if paragraphs styles would allow for SVGs and / or Graphics to be used as "custom bulletpoints".

Retained overwrites
While doing heavy make-up of book texts I often need to get in a line or to space out a line. Doing this without having countless paragraph overrides (with the danger that by clicking "clear override" or applying a script everything would be lost) the only possibility so far is to make numerous paragraph copies, e.g., "body", "body+5", "body+10", "body-5" etc.
A possible solution could be to have the paragraph style definition with some kind of "ranges", maybe "Tracking: 0 - +30" with a default value "0". And the actual value could be selected in a panel. Hopefully someone has…1 vote -

Paragraph Borders and Shading - Keep in Frame
I use a P Style for a Tip paragraph in my Quick Reference Cards (QRC). The Tip is typically one or two sentences, and has a light shading (light grey) with a top and bottom blue border. I use a similar style for Warnings, except I change the borders to red. Occasionally, the Tip/Warning falls at the top or bottom of a column, and the Border, and sometimes the Shading, lands outside the text frame.
Can we have a "Keep in Frame" for Borders and Shading, similar to the one for P Rules? David Blatner had a great workaround when…

Paragraph Rule Establish Length
Under Paragraph Rules, we have the option to increase the indent from the left or the right, it would be nice to just dictate overall length of size

Some way to synchronize and update styles (Paragraph and Character especially) across multiple InDesign documents.
Currently, there is no way other than the undesirable "book" workaround method to have a set of Paragraph Styles - that can be updated globally accross multiple InDesign documents.
There should be some way to synchronize and update styles (Paragraph and Character Styles especially) across multiple InDesign documents.
This could be done by some kind of external "Styles" library (ideally, both Local and or Cloud based) that can be applied to an .indd file, that when updated or changed, will then update or change any document using that same Styles Library.
Currently, it is very difficult to keep Styles updated…

STYLE support for run-in (aka in-line) headings
Currently there is no Style setting that can produce a run-in heading. This is a very widely used style in documents using more than 2-3 heading levels, and I have needed it for years now.
NOTE: Using Nested Styles does not fulfill the need for run-in headings. Using a nested style is a work-around based on character styles, and this technique does not allow a heading to be "promoted" or redesigned!
A quick solution:
Create a new Style setting checkbox to be used by the run-in heading style: "Run-in". When checked, the paragraph is given 0 leading, and its total…

Style counters
I would find very helpful to have a counter near any style (in particular for tables, but can work with other styles too) that enlights the number of items to whom is assigned the style and add a function, similar to the error panel, in which one can scroll to the elements, double clicking, and be brought to the item itself.

Allow the paragraph shading to 'knock out' paragraph border in some way for more usefullness
If I specify a border & use just the 'top' as a horizontal rule with the idea to have it appear only on either side of a line of text, there isn't an option to do that or for the shading to knock-out the 'border' or have one in front of the other so it would be handy to be able to specify that one is on top of the other & the option to knock it out or a gap size. I've achieved the desired effect in the 2nd image with a white stroke but that doesn't work well…

Stroke Profile
Add in Adobe illustrators stroke profiles to indesign. The amount of times I've wanted to do a stroke in indesign with tapered ends and had to open Ai just for that one additional feature of control is too high

Edit multiple paragraph styles at the same time
When we have changes in layouts or designs it is a pain to edit all the paragraph styles individually. Please make it possible to edit them all at once.
Example: 10 paragraph styles in one doc all with the same font. Customer wants to change the font.

Shading for character styles
I love using the shading for whole paragraph styles, but it would be nice to have shading for character styles as well. This would be nice for "highlighter" effects, which you just want to highlight a few lines or words. Just like applying an underline or strikethrough, but with a little more control over color, padding, maybe even shape?

Section Styles
Often we need to apply styling, such as a shaded background, to not just an individual paragraph, but to a SECTION which is composed of multiple paragraphs.
There is no easy way to do this via style sheets. Duplicating all the individual paragraph styles again and adding the 'shaded' properties to each one is way too tedious and fussy.
It would be nice if we could have SECTION STYLES. This would function like a 'wrapper' encompassing multiple paragraphs. That way we could select a passage of text and easily apply things like shading, borders, and indents to it. See attached…
