  1. Toggle settings to Auto Update Links

There is much need for a setting (preferably toggle on/off) for updating of linked files automatically. A lot of companies and designers use InDesign to setup presentations, and it can get extremely time consuming having to manually update links as they change.

  2. Add Rubber band for pen tool

I would love to have the rubber band on the pen tool like Illustrator.

  3. User interface is getting worse and worse

I am still on CS6, because newer versions have been less stable and don't bring any benefits I need. Now I tried InDesign CC 2018 and realize that the contrast of the UI gets worse (dark grey on light grey or vice versa, additionally you cannot distinguish inactive/greyed-out menu topics), that the palettes needs more space on the screen without any reason for doing this and more dialogs/messages are not on the original OS design but in a new style. I suppose this is for tablet usability, but within this app really makes no sense to me. You are moving…

  4. Replace GUI

It could be usefull if developers could completely replace the existing GUI, and replace it with a custom build GUI. The Indesign engine could then also be used for other purposes than graphic design work.

  5. Make mini-icons easier to see

I am running InDesign 2017.1 on a 1920x1080 monitor. The toolbar icons are quite small, but still usable, except for the ones dealing with color and stroke (lower left corner of UI). The mini-icons are trouble for old eyes and hands. I have tried changing the Windows text size setting to 125%, which improves the mini-icon situation but bloats the whole UI, reducing the work area. All I really want to do is make the color/stroke jumble easier to navigate and use. Everything else is fine as is.

  7. Find/Change Panel -> Dockable ?

I'm struggling with screen estate here (laptop, no other screen) and was wondering about the Find/Change window.

It's floating on top of everything, like a modal window, but you still can interact with everything underneath.

So it is basically acting like a panel.

What I am missing here is an icon + the option to dock it and hide and show when needed.

It is quite a large panel so it very often hides things (results, context) under it.

    What about 3 things :
    1. "make it a (real) panel", don't change design quick and dirty, but already solves the…

  8. OpenType-"O" on textframes: More a viewing-option than in preference

As an element on my image/text-frames I would expect this OpenType feature to turn on/off in the "Viewing-options » Extras" like corner-effects or link status, tho its an advanced input.

  10. Save All and Close All

Add a 'Save All' and 'Close All' to the File menu. Photoshop and other Adobe software have had this since the '90s, so why doesn't InDesign? It's inefficient to click on dozens of documents one at a time in order to save them and/or save and close them. Please emulate Photoshop as the ideal example.

  11. make type palette responsive and precise - it slips and lags.

scrolling through fonts in the type palette is not smooth and responsive. It slips and lags, as if there is something blocking the mouse or trackpad sensor. Frustrating bug that does not occur in Illustrator. Please fix.

  12. Full Screen InDesign Mac

On mac, and especially when working on design projects, it is really nice to be able to flip through full screened apps in spaces. InDesign does not allow for this, which means that I lose documents behind it.

  13. I would like to see custom panel layouts carried across when you upgrade to a newer version. It is rather frustrating and counterproductive

I would like to see custom panel layouts carried across when you upgrade to a newer version. It is rather frustrating and counterproductive to have to set them up each time you upgrade. Not to mention it often takes a few days of moving things and showing panels before you get it back to what you remember

  14. Allow file paths to be copied from the Missing Images pop-up window

    1. When creating a Merged Document using Data Merge, InDesign displays a pop-up window if it detects any images missing from the Data Source. The Missing Images pop-up window lists the file paths of the missing images. In older versions of InDesign, the file paths could be copied directly from the pop-up window. This is no longer possible with the latest version of InDesign.

    2. Being able to copy lists of missing image paths directly from the Missing Images pop-up window is valuable to me because I frequently use Data Merge to make merged documents containing tens of thousands of images. My…

  15. Styles UI needs to keep up with the times

Styles are implemented in InDesign since... well, for ever. The options and settings grew a lot over the years BUT it still looks and feels the same. Old and unflexible. There is a styles window with your collected styles and to edit those you have your Style Options window. Basically that´s it.

Practically that means you have to open each style individually, make your changes individually (although you want equally changes), check if design and layout still works, edit each style... again... individually.

Please find a way to improve working/handling styles e.g. for collective changes or simultaneously opening multiple Style…

  16. Cross-reference dialog: sortable picker / resizable window

Every time I place a new cross-ref or edit a broken one, it opens that "Edit cross-ref" window, which is not resizable, where a lot of space is wasted and where the most import part, the list of headlines to pick from, is not the biggest part. Then I would select a paragraph style from that very small list on the left where some style names may even be wider than the list field. And when picking from the list on the right, it is not sorted aphabetically by default. Please put something we can click to sort. Imagine you…

  17. drag csv or txt file into Data Merge Panel

    Dear Adobe Developers,
It would be awesome to be able to drag and drop a txt- or csv-file straight from the finder into the Data Merge Panel.

    Kind Regards

  18. Enough blue, pop-up bubbles — It’s interruption and torture.

What’s much more useful is a tour of new features in each release. This could be standalone / outside the app. Thanks!

  19. Zoom box in Pages Window

I would like to see in CC InDesign the ability to see where you're zoomed in at in your pages window. Also, I'd like to be able to click and hold onto the highlight zoomed in the area on the pages window and move it to update the preview when I let go of the highlighted zoom box.

This would be helpful for us users that create large catalogs and would like to quickly JUMP-TO a portion of a page. With large catalog files, the program can get sluggish/slow. When the user has to scroll through a bunch of pages…

  20. Update the new New Document dialog box

    1. Add the ability to removed saved and recent presets easily—individually and collectively

    2. Add a preview checkbox (so new users can see the page they are building as in the legacy New Document dialog box)

    3. Update the way you save a new preset—right now there is a box to type in a new name, but when you click on the Save icon you have to type the name in again.
