Title interrupting frame border
For a title within a frame, a not-uncommon graphic design method is to have the title interrupting the frame. You can create a title with a paragraph border and shading and then shift the paragraph, border and shading up, but instead of overprinting over the frame border, the frame border goes through the middle of the title.

Clipping masks with varied transparency
The ability to apply an image as a clipping mask to another image from within InDesign instead of needing to rely on other software like Photoshop would be really helpful.
I have hundreds of pages that need editing together with 1 - 3 images per page. Each of these images needs a png applied to them as a clipping mask with the text positioned around them. Currently the only way to do this in InDesign is to import something like a .psd file that you can't make live edits on. Constantly flicking between different software to get the layout right…

Preserve positioning data when pasting graphic from one frame to another
When I copy an image from one frame and paste it into another, I expect this action to preserve two sets of attributes: scaling factor and positioning data.
I get one out of two (scaling).
No offense, but QuarkXPress could do both back in 1990.
Why does this matter? Imagine a layout with a horizontal row of head shots, each in a separate frame of the same shape and size. Client says, "Oh, please move photo 3 to frame 10, and scoot everyone else up one frame."
I don't have to imagine this situation, as I'm currently working on a…

Brushes
It would be great to be able to import Illustrator brushes in that can be used to style Frame Borders in the same way you can use it as stroke styles in Illustrator. InDesign is woefully behind in allowing procedural design.

Incompatible 100% view between Indesign and Illustrator to Photoshop in Versions 2020
When I set object dimensions or text sizes in Indesign / Illustrator, 100% view shows larger-sized objects (in pixels) that do not match the actual dimensions as apears in a screen-shot. Meaning: There is a difference in 100% view between Indesign and Illustrator to Photoshop. This makes it difficult to design for web in Indesign/Illustrator. This issue did not exist in earlier versions such as CS5.5.

Make it possible to use ParaNumOnly in InDesign cross-reference
When cross-referencing I would like to be able to use ParaNumOnly, like in FrameMaker. In Danish, and probably other languages, the reference to e.g. "Figure 1" mid sentence should be lower case - "see figure 1" even though I am cross referencing Figure 1. ParaNumOnly would make it possible for me to only cross reference the number and control whether the case in "figure" should be upper or lower.

Please make the Paragraph Style Options panel resizable
When on a laptop, opening the Paragraph Style Options takes almost the whole size of my laptop screen. There is no way to resize this, and it is almost impossible to view the effect of the changes you are making.

"Include subfolders" option when using "Relink to folder"
When choosing "Relink to folder" in the Links panel, there should be an option to "Include subfolders". In large documents with hundreds of links that are organized into subfolders, it is a huge chore to have to click through individual folders.

Adaptive layout, Simple math, Line Breaks with Data Merge
The simplest example to describe a problem:
I'd like to generate many invoices. Every invoice have different number of products on in, in table. + It would be great to have calculations options in this table. Also i think that controlling line break with data merge is must have. Create special code for ex. " " to automate it! :)1 vote -
InDesign should feature the same shape corner handles as Illustrator
It works so well! And has been adapted by XD. I'd love to see those little circular rounded corner handles in InDesign for shapes.

Group Layers
It would be an easy but valuable addition to be able to group layers in InDesign like we can do in Photoshop. That would allow various "versions" of a document to be turned off an on, as well as organizing more complex documents. We can group paragraph styles and swatches – why not layers? Palette items should be groupable across the board, for a consistent interface.

Copy and Paste Effects
It'd be great to be able to copy and paste effects from objects, especially between multiple documents. This would be similar to Photoshop's ability to copy layer effects.

Adjustable row- and column lines
I'm setting this student book and the designer made nice tables.
The tables have no touching intersection where row line meets column line.
It's approved by the client who loves these tables.
The problem is that the designer has drawn the lines by hand. As a typesetter you curse at it and find a solution for your 200+ tables, wich I did with a mix of paragraph borders and underlining/paragraphlines but I'm gonna cry pure salt if I need to make changes to this. With some clients you never know ;) I will attach a screenshot from a simple example.…

Shift+Alt+Cmd = shortcut for Step & Repeat
After duplicating an object by holding alt (and shift, if you wanted to) in CS6, you could step & repeat the object(s) again and again by simply pressing Shift+Alt+Cmd.
Neat! No trip to the menu-bar required. No aligning required.
But that feature is lacking in the CC version. Why remove someting that really made life easy and worked!?2 votes -
Reduce paragraph panel
Coming here from CS5. Wish there was a way to edit the paragraph format panel so it only shows what you need. "Hide options" does not work as I do need "space above" for paging, and that disappears. I do NOT need drop caps in paragraph panel (that would be a paragraph style), or borders/shading (that would be an object style). Panel takes up way more space than I would like. Perhaps a "legacy" option to eliminate those unneeded elements.

Option to set Overprint at 0 % color value
I would like to be able to set objects which are colored with 0% color value(halftone) to overprint.
I need this function for example to color objects with the color varnish and to get correct color separations. Because everything that is colored with varnish should overprint.
Until now I correct this in the PDF I export from Indesign. But it would be desirable if this setting could already be made in Indesign.

Image inside workspace moves while corners of the window are dragged. Please provide option to keep contents within window from moving.
Create an option to keep screen image from shifting within the workspace window when the corners of the window are dragged, so that when one resizes the window, the contents stays still. That way, the user won't have to use the hand tool to get back to what they were looking at on the page before they dragged a corner of the screen.
