Have the option to add dynamic or static captions to an anchored image.
It would be interesting to have the option to add dynamic or static captions to an anchored image.
On the 1st image, an anchored object, impossible to have the option to add dynamic or static captions.
On the 2nd one, not an anchored object, it's possible to add dynamic or static captions
Indesign CC 2019, French version on MacOS Mojave.

Absolute page numbers as a text variable
I propose adding "Absolute Page Number" as a text variable. Similar to Last Page Number, "Absolute Page Number" would allow the document creator to place the absolute page number of the layout onto a page while also using another page numbering system (sections, roman numerals, etc.).
With long documents now both being used in whole or separated into parts by clients, this would allow InDesign users to fulfill the issue of having a page carry two numbering schemes at the same time.

Offset path
iD : Fr : Offset path
I found myself stuck by wanting to make a simple offset path inside inDesign. This seems to HAVE to be DONE in Illustrator.
Bad thing about that is that if I have to go back and forth between both, I’ll have to place it correctly, when it should be a simple value in any unit to enter. Some have explored the need for that as a script :

Animated zoom even without HiDPI screen. My Indesign CC doesn't support the feature yet my Illustrator CC on the exact same system setup does and is buttery smooth. Surely if Illustrator can do it on the exact same system Indesign can too?

Individual arrowheads like in Illustrator
In Illustrator it is possible to create individual arrowheads (although a little bit more complicated as I'd like to but possible).
In InDesign somehow I can't.
I always have to use a certain kind of arrow which I'd love to be able to add to the "library or choice of arrowheads".Here’s a video I found regarding arrowheads in Illustrator:

Multiple Value Storage in under 'Align: Distribute Spacing'
Rather than only having one "use spacing" option under Align: Distribute Spacing, it would be fantastic if there could be multiple values - selectable in the same way as they are now (with a checkbox).
I find myself constantly having to override the value in the "use spacing" box but only going back and forth between two options (1p0 and 2p0). It's all for a rather complicated publication that is a weekly task (and occupies a few days per week) but find myself wishing I had the same option for most other projects I work on.
It's minor, but would…

Now we have 'borders' and 'shading', can we have the ability to have transparencies on these?
Now that we have Borders and Shading, can we have the ability to have transparencies on these? Please?

Max size in Text Frame options.
Why is there a minimum size for text frames, but not a maximum size. We use Auto-size combined with text-wrap a lot with liquid layout templates to allow text to adapt to it's new sizes/dimensions. Occasionally it would be great if we could build a maximum size that the text box can grow too instead of giving it the minimum size.

Selecting individual cells across rows & collums
Just like with Excel, it would be great to be able to select individual cells with something like holding the command/control key instead of only being able to select one cell or cells on the same row.

Command to break frame into individual frames for each column
Invoking the command would create individual text frames for each of the columns so they can be manipulated individually.

Links panel - use arrow keys to view each linked file's attributes
Often in large documents i like to check the attributes (ex. color space, effective PPI, etc.) of each linked file in the "Links" panel before packaging everything for the print company. Would be really nice to be able to use the arrow keys to move up and down this list instead of having to click on each file individually.

Text wrap around anchored objects needs to work according to settings, regardless of where the anchor is placed.
Text wrap refuses to wrap properly around my anchored objects regardless of anchor placement in the paragraph or text wrap offset settings.
This causes the anchored object to overlap the text and/or have inconsistent margin offset around the object. It's erratic and inconsistent among the various objects, even though they all have the exact same object style applied.
Some of the objects wrap a little better than others - at least they're not overlapping on top of text - but the wrap margins are still inconsistent. Not a single object wraps how I believe it should based on the style…

Allow each section or master page spread to have a custom baseline grid
I work on many books that have different sections, with different content. While I try to make sure everything fits and follows the same baseline grid, often that's just not the best solution. I end up using custom baseline grid options on text frames, but that also doesn't solve everything.
It would be very useful to set a baseline grid that applies to a specific master page, or to a whole section.6 votes -
Lock/Unlock all objects in an entire document
Currently we can lock/unlock an object or all objects on a spread. But what about getting the same features for an entire document so that you don't need to manually do this for every spread?

I need a way to relink images across all open documents.
When I go to relink an image that is now in a different folder, and that image is inside of 7 different files, I'd like to be able to tell one file where the image is, and the other ones can also use that same image, with some kind of toggle to disable that if for some reason I didn't want all the images to use it.

Preference to always select pages when placing multi-page PDF
When placing a multi-page PDF there should be a preference to always show import options. When I place a multi-page Word file I don’t only get the first page, I get the whole document. I should at least have the option to do this with PDFs.
I am aware that I can access Show Import Options when placing a file through a dialogue, but that is an extra step and it is unavailable when using drag-and-drop.
Please add a preference to “Show Import Options When Placing Multi-page Graphic Files.”

Professional Level Graph Tool
All of us professional users need a real Graph/Chart design tool inside Indesign.
It's crazy that you can do this with Microsoft Word or Excel and not with In Design.. Having to go back and forth between Illustrator (whose own graph tool isn't exactly state of the art either) and InDesign is a waste of time for a functionality that should have been implemented years (decades) ago...6 votes -
Transform multiple objects at once with their own reference point
If you select multiple objects they are now treated as one big object and transformed using a reference point from that one big object.
I really need a checkbox where you can choose for every individual object to keep their own reference points when transforming multiple objects. This will save a lot of time. I know their is a workaround (transform again), but that's more steps and it seems like such a logical feature to have.6 votes
