Totally agree with all of your points. Appreciate that the comment import feature was added, but the panel itself is horribly designed. I realize it mirrors the recent (dreadful) Acrobat redesign, but that's a very bad thing.

Everything in this panel looks huge and out-of-place compared to the rest of the indesign UI. Way too much gray—this panel needs some color in the icons. I also don't need to see the reviewer name 200 times....is there a way to hide that?

Agree that it feels half-baked, and honestly I'm ok with that because it's better than nothing. Please just continue to bake it :)

Yes, so much better now after remapping the keyboard shortcuts, thanks! I still think it should work this way by default to match the behavior of Acrobat, Preview, and pretty much every other program, but no big deal now that I know it's customizable.

Also simply doing a fresh "SAVE AS" and overwriting your file can cut down the size, sometimes significantly. The size tends to accumulate as you do regular SAVEs, but SAVE AS seems to write a fresh/optimized copy.

I agree, the full-document link updates take forever.

To help explain, let's say I have a 10pg indesign document containing component graphics, (for example a series of graphs or illustrations). I place the pages of this document inside another larger indesign document (for example a textbook). Then let's say I go back and edit ONE single page of the component document. When I go to update the link in the larger document, indesign is not smart enough to update just the one modified page. It updates every single page. This takes a considerable amount of processing time and is wasteful/inefficient.

We do large format exhibit booth displays that consist of one giant image spanning across many individual panels. We design the overall image as one big piece, but the printing vendors want to receive each panel as a separate file. This would be so much easier to set up if you could remove the 10pg horizontal spread limit and add the ability to stack pages vertically. In other words, having the freedom to arrange our pages in rows and columns (like we can do with Illustrator artboards).

This already exists in some form: see Window >> Styles >> Object Styles. There is a section within those for effects.

Another cool feature (in the regular effects panel; not related to object styles): After you apply the desired effect, if you click and hold on the little "fx" logo in the effects panel, you can then drag that it over top of any object in your document and let go. It will apply the same effect to that object.

Yes, if this could emulate the CSS functionality of :before and :after that would be perfect. I would use this all the time! Just a basic way to use the paragraph style to insert a short bit of text characters before and/or after the actual content of the paragraph. For example, [Always insert the word "INTRO:" before any paragraphs with "intro" paragraph style applied]. Would also be useful for quickly adding endmark characters to the last paragraph of a magazine story.

Yes this was driving me crazy thinking I was doing something wrong. This a bug specific to CHARACTER styles as you said (the equivalent export settings for paragraph styles work properly).

    TO REPRODUCE:

    Create new document
    type some text
create a new character style, for example “Italics”
In the character style’s Export Tagging settings, choose:
    > Tag: em
    > UNCHECK “Include Classes in HTML”

Now apply that character style to any word in your text.

    File >> Export >> HTML
[specific settings here don’t matter, just click ok]

    What should happen:
HTML should export with your chosen word wrapped in a basic <em></em> tag, with no class

    What actually happens:
HTML exports with NO tag wrapping the chosen word at all. The tag is completely ignored.

The only way to get the character style’s tag to successfully export is to check “include classes in HTML”. But this is not desirable when we do not want/need any classes, such as for simple <em> or <strong> tags.

Would appreciate if you could fix as this would really clean up our HTML markup.
