Cannot print with trapping turned on
After installing the newest updated version of InDesign today whenever I attempt to print a two color job as separations with the trapping turned on I get a message stating "the engine failed to output due to an unknown error." It's kind of important to have the trapping on with tight registration print jobs.

And....it still doesn't work. Spent over 2 hours on the phone with support specialist, they remotely attempted numerous fixes on my computer with no success. They called back today to tell me that it's an ongoing issue with Indesign CC and they have no idea when it will be resolved.
$750 annually for a program that's constantly updated, if you don't update it doesn't function correctly, they keep screwing it up so as soon as you figure one thing out they change it. This is why people pay 1/6 the cost of this nonsense set of programs for Canva. I only ever use/need Indesign, Illustrator, and once every 3 months I'll have to use Photoshop....but instead, I get inundated with bloatware and **** I don't need, want, or can use. In addition, because the craptastic stuff is cloud based the performance level SUCKS.
The answer is find a copy of the legacy version (CS3/4/5), install it, and use that for most of what you need daily. It's much, much more efficient than this nonsense.

Still not working in CC InDesign v17.0.1 or v17.4. have 1 pc that had updates disabled and using v15.1.3 and is the only one that still works with application built-in trapping.
how is it that this option has been broken for so long? theres not a single ppd i can use that makes this work. i have checked all colour settings and everything else is the same as the old version. the only difference is the indesign version > 15.1.3
please fix this issue. also does anyone on a windows pc have this working at all? i have tried 4 machines and none of them do here.
i will also add that CC no longer lets me install an older version than for the other pc's so this makes it quite difficult in an office with 4 other people trying to run the same process on a single users pc.
i need these output as a ps file in seperations for a very old dpx system. it does not accept any other format.

I had the same problem when I upgraded from 16.0.1 to 16.1, so I went back to 16.0.1 and it was fine. Then I forgot all about it, upgraded to 17.0.1 and discovered not only does the problem still exist, but now I can't even go back to 16.0.1 anymore because it's no longer available!
This happens when I print to our rip, and it also happens when I try to print separations to a PDF using Adobe PDF as the printer. So it's definitely an Adobe problem and not a problem with the rip.

Trapping does not work in the latest version (17.0)
Trapping does not work in version 16
Trapping does work in version 15.So something that works in V15, stopped working in V16 and still is broken in V17.
Steps taken to replicate error : attempting to trap separations from InDesign.
I have to run two versions of indesign to do my job properly, which does not help my workflow.(windows 10, x64)

Same here. And it's been a problem for a number of updates now. I've gone through the entire array of Adobe's suggested solutions for the "the engine failed…" error to no avail. Reinstalled 15.1.3 and trapping works fine there, leading me to believe it's InDesign's problem, not mine. I keep waiting for new updates to rectify the issue but they never do.
It's annoying but if I need something trapped I bounce it to PDF and then output it from 15.1.3.

I'm having the same problem. I cannot confirm it's because of the latest update, but it wasn't happening before the last update.
