Type tool still deselects itself InDD 15.0.1
The bug has been already reported, it's been claimed to be fixed in 14.0.1, but actually still persists and never was corrected.
Typing "T" just selects the type tool very briefly, then changes back to the previous tool. Clicking inside a text frame has the same result, even if you get to select some part of the text, it just changes back tot he previous tool in most of the cases. The only way to get it work, is to select the tool in the sidebar, however even there it takes several seconds to become active.
Using InDD 15.0.1 on a Mac Pro, MacOS 10.13
The fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2022(v17.0.0.96). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application and click on the context menu on the top right and click on Check for App Updates.

This is still happening to me in 14.0.2. In fact, it's happening at higher frequency than before. Earlier, it would happen every once in a while. I thought it would fix when I started with a completely fresh computer and newly downloaded CC apps with no preferences set. It was fine for the first week or so of using InDesign and a few fonts that I loaded for key projects, but today I finally got around to transferring all my fonts, and almost immediately I started having problems with the Type tool deactivating itself upon selecting it using the "T" shortcut. And now, it's consistently happening. And by "consistent," I mean literally every time.
I rely on shortcuts and this is maddening. Adobe team, please provide an update ASAP. Thank you.

I am still having this issue even with the 14.0.1 update. As others have mentioned the issue goes away if the Control bar is not open, but that's quite a tradeoff and woefully inefficient as well.

THIS IS NOT FIXED!
Problem is happening when I open indesign documents received from macos on windows.
This is very very annoying. Instead of adding useless and "fancy new functions" better keep the old ones and not break them. -

This issue has not been fixed in 14.0.1. Occasionally when switching to another tool, like the line tool, and then using the keyboard shortcut (T) to select the type tool, the action works. However, it still does not work when you have the move tool selected. In the screencap below, every time the tool quickly selects the type tool I'm pressing (T) on my keyboard and every time it switches back to the move tool, I'm not touching anything. So, it seems like it was partially fixed, but, still has major issues.

This is still happening to me and has been for a few versions now. Windows 10, 14.0.1 x64
This has been messing with my workflow for months, would really appreciate some movement from Adobe to resolve.

Hello, I am facing a problem in switching between 'Text' and 'Selection tool'. While using short-cut, if the 'Selection' tool is selected and I press 'T' for Text Tool, it changes to 'Text Tool' for a nanosecond and went back to Selection Tool.
Because of which I have to manually select the Text tool to make a text hangar. Also the duplicate short cut command doesn't work properly.
Please look into this matter.

Agreed 100% with comment below.
This is still an issue—a very bad one when you're trying to work on layout.
And IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE CONTROL BAR IS VISIBLE. -

NOT FIXED. Please re-look into this! -

To clarify, I've discovered this only happens for me when I have the "Control" toolbar visible. If I remove that then the issue goes away.

Not fixed!! - Updated to Id 14.0.1 but still have the exact same problem with the Type Tool (T) shortcut. When I press "T" it jumps to the Type Tool for a second, then jumps back to the previous used tool again.

Yes, this is happening to me too! I find myself drawing a box with the move tool sometimes instead of the type tool. It seems to happen when there's a pause in the program such as loading something in the background or switching to preview.
Here's how I can get it to happen fairly consistently. I think the busier the document, the more it will occur.
Be in preview mode with the Move tool selected.
Press T, then W, and then drag. The actions should happen quickly after each other.
At some point, sometimes, the tool will have switched to the Move tool and a selection box is made instead of a type box because of the sudden tool change. I get the loading cursor sometimes and that's when it's more likely the tool will change. This is on Windows 7 as well, though it seems it's happen on other system configurations as well.

Still the same problem. I press T and it jumps to Selection Tool automatically. I uninstalled 3 times and the first few seconds it's good, but then it starts doing it again. I've been dealing with it for a few hours now.
