InDesign performance issue: Text disappears while editing
When editing a text box, the text disappears.
I have to switch the display mode (Overview > Normal or Normal > Overview) to make the text appear again.
This bug occurs frequently (10~20 times a day) but I did not identify what is the trigger.

Ravi and the Adobe ID team: As you've heard from others, the problem is still happening. If I can be of help, please contact me! I'm happy to screen share and show you where/when it's happening. I've noticed that it happens when deleting a segment of type, when copying and pasting type from one text box to another. Sometimes, it happens after hitting the return key. It happens only somewhat less when in Overprint Preview mode. And, like others have mentioned, this has only started happening for me since working on the new iMac with M1 chip. Thank you for trying to fix this problem that is making us crazy. :-(

This issue is not fixed.
I am using an 2021 M1 Macbook Air with 8GB of Ram OS 12.1 (Monterey) using InD 2022 v17.1. I have more than enough memory free as well.
Every time I edit a text field the text visual disappears and only reappears if I zoom in and out or move/scroll. Very annoying and adds huge amounts of time to jobs. Has been like this for the duration of owning an M1 (9 months). My work iMac which is Intel 2017 16GB same OS and Adobe version works fine. This issue seems to be specific to M1 for me.
Edit: The issue is resolved on overprint preview although that's not a practical solution when working on files with lots of texture, high res imagery, layer effects or nodes. It still needs to be resolved for 'typical display'.
Generally this has been reported by colleagues with 8GB Ram M1's, users with 16GB appear to be clear of the issue.

I like adobe suite because once you know a few of the programs pretty well, the others are easy top pick up. That said, having never used InDesign before today, I just assumed I was doing something wrong so I kept plugging away. Hours of wasted time fighting with disappearing text boxes. What a disappointment to find out it's just a poorly made program.

By following instructions set out by Sanyam. That is by (i) updating Creative Cloud to incorporate the pre-release feature, then (ii) installing ver 17.1, I can happily report that I no longer experience problems with text disappearance.

Editing text causes a blank textbook. only way to fix it is to refresh the screen, either with zooming or turning on and off Guides.

Pre-Release does not show up under Categories for me. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Just updated to InDesign 17.0.1. The bug is still present. Makes InDesign virtually unusable.

I am using InDesign prerelease 17.7 (downloaded 24 Jan 2022) on an M1 2020 Mac (11.6) and I am unable to edit in InDesign as the text box becomes blank/white whenever a change is made. I was led to believe this would be solved in this latest prerelease but it's not working. Does anyone else have a workaround? Thanks

I have a M1 MAC running Monterey 12.0.1 OS and I'm using InDesign 2022 from Creative Cloud (fully up to date!) and the text disappears when changing the text box attributes from 1 column to 2 columns! It seems I am not alone and Adobe has not yet fixed this problem - I wonder why???
Does anyone know a workaround, please? -

I've just installed the new prerelease build (17.7) but the problem is not fixed. Text still disappears while I'm typing. I've tried it with GPU enabled and disabled. This is on an M1 Mac Mini running macOS Monterey 12.1.

I googled this problem and came to this page. This has been happening to me on my new iMac OS BigSur, it is a constant problem and doubles the amount of time I spend editing text. It is horrible. I have to adjust the text frame every time to get the text back. What is the problem Adobe, when will you get this fixed??

this happens to me constantly. 5 to 6 times each minute as I edit text. Mac M1 Mini, Big sur, InD 2022, every time I edit text in a text frame, the text, usually the entire block above and below the line I'm on will disappear. I have to move the frame up and down one point to get the text to come back. Then I edit more text, same thing, have to switch to selection tool, move text box or zoom in and out to fix the next word. I DOUBLE the time that it takes to edit text.

Whiteout = loss of text in the frame, momentarily. Constantly upon editing. Scroll up or down and the text immediately repopulates.... type very slowly -- like trying to avoid waking the beast -- and the text lasts longer before glitch... This is a very crummy situation. Adobe, whatsup?
