  1. Text frames in Object Libraries won't retain style settings

Version: InDesign, version 16.4 on Mac OS Big Sur, version 11.6

I am encountering an issue involving text frames that do not retain their object style settings when inserted and/or saved within object libraries. Font/paragraph styles are unaffected, but object style attributes such as vertical justification, text wrap, fill, stroke and inset spacing are all lost (revert to defaults) upon being added to the library. The same is true for settings made while editing the library items directly.

This problem only involves individual text frames, and does not seem to affect any other type of graphic added to the library…

After setting the desired properties for the Text Frame, select the text frame object and in the CC Libraries panel, click on the ‘+’ icon at the bottom of the panel – here you will see various options like Fill color, Text, Character style, Paragraph style, and Graphic.
You can also choose to Add all.
Choosing ‘Add all’ will add separate items in the CC Libraries – you will find Fill color, Text, any Char/Para style, and a Graphic. Use any of these according to your needs.

    Hope it helps.

  2. Paragraph borders do not update when the text length is changed

When editing a paragraph with borders applied to them, the borders do not update correctly when changing the text length. This should occur dynamically, whereas currently, users have to tick and untick the checkbox as it does not always update.

This occurs on Windows 10, Indesign version 16.4.

  3. Paragraph border and shading error with anchored objects

when anchored objects (such as column Text or line numbers) are anchored in a Text using the options "Paragraph border" and "paragraph Shading" the borders and Shades will "randomly" disappear, or new border-lines will appear (when more then one paragraphs are merged, the lines always appear between the different styles, even though they work fine again when the object is de-anchored). Sometimes the appearance doesn't change when an object is anchored, but when the anchored object is edited (for example, when the size of the anchored object is changed).

This is reproducable on my Windows 10, using InDesign 15.1.4.

  7. nested style does not appear

When creating a new Style using the Nested Styles dropdown, the new style does not appear in the Styles Panel. I need to remove a number of unused styles created using the Nested Styles dropdown method, but since they don't show up in the Styles Panel, there is no way to remove them.

  9. Problem with locally overrided paragraph with Nested Style

There is still a problem with pasting new plain text to locally overrided paragraph with Nested Style. It's shown in the attachment.
Indesign 16.3, but this bug lingers on Indesign 16.0.1.

  12. em dash

InDesign treats two words separated by an em dash as a single word when applying styles. For example, if you create a paragraph style which includes a nested style to set the first three words of the paragraph in small caps, InDesign will set the first four words in small caps if the first three words include an em dash.

An em dash should be treated as punctuation, not a connector. Words separated by an em dash are are separate words and should be treated as such.

  13. Character style has trouble spanning more than one line

It used to be that InDesign had no trouble when a character style ran more than one line. From some time, including InDesign 16.2.1, if a character style is applied to a string of text that starts on one line and continues to the next line, for example the last few words on a line and the first few words on the next line, InDesign will force all the text with that Character Style onto the next line, and space on the text on the previous line to span the entire line.
However, if you don't use a Character Style…

  14. Paragraph Styles panel

In InDesign v 16.1 the Paragraph Styles panel is not showing any paragraph styles at all. I have tried creating new styles, saving them and they also don't show up. I have tried opening different files, where I know I have Paragraph Styles and it's still not working. Character Styles (most of which are nested in Paragraph Styles) on the other hand are displaying properly. I have tried resizing the panel, as suggested by another user, but no matter the size, nothing displays in the body of the panel.

If I open these same files in InDesign 15.1.3 the paragraph…

Italic and bold words protected in the old version are not preserved in the new version, screenshots and sample files are available, we tried it on different systems, the problem is the same.

  16. Character Styles do not honor symbols

I can not use the Find/Replace feature to globally assign a character style to a symbol (+, *, etc.). Tech Supp tells me only text can accept the character style assignment. It would be very helpful if you could fix this. I had pages of graduates to assign honors levels to using symbols and mosta of them had to be handled manually

  17. Allow importing of styles from CC library to application, not just to document

There needs to be a way to import styles from our library into InDesign itself, not into a document. You allow us to import swatches this way, so why not styles?

I have lots of default styles/swatches, which I created with no document open so they are applied to every new document I make. I got a new computer, so I added all of these styles to my library with hopes that I could import them all again.

    Nope.

ID lets you add swatches from your library to the app, but as far as styles go you need to have…

  18. Style "based on" another doesn't inherit Export Tag settings

When a paragraph style (or character style) is created that is based on an existing one, Export Tagging attributes should be inherited just like all the other attributes are - that one category of settings seems to have been overlooked in the code. You can see screenshots and my example use case at: https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign/style-quot-based-on-quot-another-doesn-t-inherit-export-tag-settings/m-p/11981317

  19. InDesign 16.1 - nested styles read line break as Paragraph return.

If I place a shift-return in a paragraph with a nested style, the program reads it as a paragraph return and behaves as if the new line is an new paragraph, adding the starting nested style to the new line.
