Character Style contestual to Paragraph Style
Suppose you have a text, for example an introduction, with some word (i.e. titles) in Italic in it. Now you decide that this text must be in Italic. So, all the titles in it that were in Italic must be in plain.
In CSS this is easy to do; you'll have something like span.title { font-style: italic; } with the variant p.intro span.title { font-style: normal; }.
I think it's a necessity quite frequent. In other similar scenario you may have to use different colors, different weights.4 votes -
Checkbox to exclude styles from output in »edit all export tags« panel
I'd love to exclude styles to be output into HTML, EPUB, etc. with a simple checkbox in the »edit all export tags« panel. Up to now, I have to delete styles that I don't want in the export every time before the export. The checkbox would save a lot of time with recurring work as journals etc.

Vignette effect for frames
Hi guys,
This would be a killing feature. There's NO WAY to automatically assign a vignette effect to a photo frame. I order to do that I have to:
1) Emulate the effect . by assigning inner shadow to a frame. This is kind of ok but it has probblems: it's not a propper vignette (vignettes actually affect corners, kind of a radial gradient) and there is no way to apply a size that is relative to the frame (I know, this is not even possible anywhere).
2) On a picture, I can select the content of the frame (the…

Feature Request: Apply Paragraph Styles to Non-Contiguous Paragraphs (Ventura Publisher-Style)
Dear Adobe InDesign Team,
I’d like to request a feature that would greatly improve workflow efficiency: the ability to select non-contiguous paragraphs and apply a paragraph style to all of them at once.
This was a standout feature of the early Ventura Publisher, which used a structure-first approach—encouraging consistent use of styles over manual formatting. With Ventura, you could quickly tag multiple scattered paragraphs (like subheads or captions) and assign a style with a single keystroke. InDesign currently requires each paragraph to be styled individually unless using GREP or Find/Change.

Merge paragraph styles to be able to use the functions of two styles at the same time
create a way that the attributes of one paragraph style can be applied to another paragraph style, so that a style that has certain attributes can be used in conjunction with other styles, thus avoiding the creation of multiple 'equal' paragraph styles just because at a certain point in the publication it has to have some difference.

Add a note for paragraph and character styles
Add a text field (doesn't need to be really long, maybe 255 characters?) to allow users to make notes about their styles!

Paragraph Styles Larger Tab Markers
I use windows 11 with a display settings at 125% scale and monitors set to 3440x1440 resolution. I use a magnified mouse cursor as well. When using the Paragraph Styles Tab feature, the tab stop markers are so small it makes it very difficult to select them to adjust their position. I would like to see the User Interface designed with larger tab stop markers or a dialogue box that allows for input of the left align and hanging indent settings.

To change the dictionary-language in paragraph styles for the whole document/all styles at once.
It would be great and timesaving to change the dictionary-language in paragraph styles for the whole document/all styles or selectedt styles at once. A checkbox like in effects "Global Light" would be great. "Global Language".
I had my styles mostly based on each other. But still have to change 4-6 Paragraphs for each language everey issue of a magazine.

Change one setting across styles
Changing one element for several styles at once is extremely important, and not only for fonts (for which obviously Replace Fonts can be used). For example, if you have an ebook localized into Japanese, you have to go style by style applying a different paragraph composer, kinsoku and mojikumi settings, etc.

Keep All Paragraphs of the Same Style Together
In Paragraph Style Options/Keep Options or in Table of Contents Styles, add an option to keep all paragraphs of the same style together. This would be very helpful when creating tables of contents or, in some circumstances, bullet lists.

Add "redefine style" button
I, and probably many other users, often use the "redefine style" button in the various style windows (mainly paragraph and object styles, but also character style etc.).
This is a very visual-centered iterative process, with a lot of tweaking, refining and tweaking again. And the "redefine style" is a key component in that process.
It should be reduced to a single click of a button, instead of right-clicking and choosing it from the menu - just as "clear overrides" has a button of it's own.
I've added the current paragraph stye menu, and an updated one with the dedicated "redefine…

Child object styles to inherit parent size and position
Object Style 1 includes width and/or height specs.
Object Style 2 is based on Object Style 1.
When Object Style 1's width/height specs are changed, they are not reflected in Object Style 2.
The only option seems to be 'Reset to base' in Object Style 2.Please make it so that child object styles also inherit Size and Position settings.

Object styles: Display performance
Add the Display performance option to Object Styles.
For example, I want all the barcodes in my files to be displayed at High Quality Display, but want all my photos to appear as Typical Display.

Ability to apply color to some or all of the individual style names in paragraph/character style palettes.
It would be so great to be able to apply color to some or all of the individual style names in paragraph/character style palettes, the way we can in the drop-down tool palettes.
The InDesign interface is terribly small (compared to Illustrator or Photoshop) and even my special computer glasses -- in conjunction with a 43-inch monitor -- are unable to compensate. There are times when I have 30-50 styles for large projects but use particular ones consistently over the others. I have a very hard time picking these out without stopping to stare, get close, examine the palette --…

Cmd K should create a Hyperlink
I find myself constantly hitting Cmd + K when trying to add a hyperlink in InDesign and always going "GAH!" because that keystroke opens the preferences panel.
With InDesign trying to be competitive in the online publishing department, I recommend using the same keystroke most other programs use (Google, Word). Even if it's not the same quick command, hyperlinks should be easy to add.

Generate caption "Name" without file extension
I'd like to be able to generate captions for numerous images based on their "Name" but I don't want the file extension to be included. Currently, I have to generate the caption and then run GREP to find/replace the extensions.
Removing the extension from the filename in Finder does not work.3 votes -
Ability to set default font (style/size) in Forms
When I use the interactive feature for forms, the default font is always Minion Pro. I would like to be able to change this for any text box I make, rather than having to do it text-box by text box. I understand that if the user does not have the font on their computer, this would be replaced with one they do have.
