Would like to add: Automatically set the value of paragraph leading according to different situations.
Would like to add: Automatically set the value of paragraph leading according to different situations.
For example, A and B paragraph styles.
By default, B has paragraph margins set. But there are some cases where it doesn't need paragraph breaks.
For example, when there is A paragraph style in front of it, because A itself has paragraph spacing, the two together will be spaced very far apart.
The way I'm dealing with it now: create a new ‘B-none’ with no paragraph leading. But it's a lot of work and trouble. If you can add the option to set when B meets…

Make break line possible to numbering
When creating a numbered list, I would be able to force a break line after the numbering, as we are able to put tab or spacings

Variables with long definitions to wrap to next line
Currently, variables do not break across lines. I have documents with tables and variables. If the variable has a long definition, I have to shrink the font to get the text to fit in the cell when it could easily wrap to the next line. FrameMaker's variables have this capability. InDesign should be able to do the same. PLEASE!

Add cell style setting fort column width and row height
We periodically update our older catalogs with newer styles and much of the content is to provide dimensions for parts. Most of the time they have not had a style applied to them. This would be the same as the option already provided when a cell is selected. Being able to select a group of cells and applying a style with column and row height would be helpful.
Its actually the only item that isn't included from the cell options every other option is already available.

Create (H) Header and (P) Paragraph style on same line to produce a TOC and 508 Accessible document (Run-in Running variable))
Create (H) Header and (P) Paragraph style on same line that will pickup the styles when I produce the TOC and make the document accessible.
I understand this can be done in FrameMaker.
If a programmer can make it happen in FrameMaker, they should be able to make it work in InDesign.
Thank You, Linda

Swap Dropper
Instead of simply using the eye dropper tool to copy the style from one item to another, it would be cool if there was an option to swap the styles between the two items.

Add extra options to the "Add Bullets" panel, like search, resize, favourite, etc.
The "Add Bullets" panel is tiny and super limited. It should be possible to resize, search and even favourite your preferred glyphs to make the process much more efficient.

It would be great if you could change the language in paragraph styles for the entire document, rather than for each style individually. Similar to the "global light" in the effects. So a checkbox "Change language in the whole document" or "Global language"!

Tab in footnote prefix for aligned decimals
I have a document with over 100 footnotes. I need to align the decimals of every footnote. To do this, I expected to be able to set up in the footnote style an "align to decimal" tab, and then a "justify left" tab for the footnote content, and then a TAB prefix in the "Document Footnote Options." However, there seems to be no way to place a tab as a Footnote text prefix. Entering ^t does nothing, and it gets cleared as soon as I close the options window. Other text or even special characters like ^r for registered trademark…

Allow object styles to be applies to all threaded text boxes
I have a couple of threaded text frames. I would like them to all have the same object style, which also includes a paragraph style in them.
As of now, indesign officially states that threaded text boxes can't share these settings. I can see why this makes sense in certain conflicting situations, but it is definitely required in many situations (just as I'm really needing it now).
I think it's fair for indesign to at least have it as an option that can be turned on or off - the option to apply object styles (e.g. paragraph styles) across threaded…

Exclude Parameters from Paragraph Styles
A bit CSS-like.
E.g. exclude Character Color from a Paragraph Style, to allow changing all but color by editing the style.
Comes in handy when text is colored manually per story, but the typeface has to be changed for all stories.2 votes -
Super/Subscript Pair
A style which will display superscript and subscript values stacked over each other and only occupy a single character space within text. This would be similar to the MathML <msubsup>.
This functionality would allow for some STEM publishing to use InDesign natively rather than creating hacks (or using other programs) to present information needed this treatment.

Add preflight flags for specific paragraph and character styles
The preflight panel is quite powerful and useful. I think it could be improved by adding the ability to flag specific font styles. For example, when working on a document, I use a character style to add highlight to text in need of revision. If the preflight panel could flag the text with that style applied, it would be easier to locate the items needing revision.

Give paragraph styles a setting to load find/replace saved queries.
In paragraph styles, give us a space to autorun a find/replace 'saved query' with the style. I know we have GREP styles, but there are a swath of styles that i have to run every time on my magazine that would be awesome to just already have been done.
That or give us a query group list that I can run the whole list with one click. Having to run each, one at a time, is a nuisance.

Make style exclusive (Do not allow override)
If we make a style exclusive then user must create character style for each instance of style override. This may take more time at early stage, but this will prevent style override & build a document on stringent Style Definition.

Rule Above and Below visible both in panel
It is confusing that when Rule Below is active, still the inactive Rule Above is show in the Paragraph Style tab.
Why not show both at once?

highlight text with customc olor
I want to highlight (or rather, underline because InDesign doesn't have a proper highlight feature...) my text a custom color. The standard 10 or so color options aren't enough. I want to use the color picker or a hex code to specify a different color to highlight my text. This is an important feature for me, because until it's implemented, I have to use Adobe Spark!

Center applied style in style panels
When I click on a paragraph or character with the text tool, InDesign’s style panel automatically jumps to and highlights the paragraph or character style, which is applied to the paragraph or character.
(From now on please read the word »style« as »paragraph or character style«.)But sadly the applied style is always shown as the very last item or the very first in the visible list of style panel. There are styles above and styles below this style in the whole list. (See »Standard-behaviour.png«.)
It’s easy to access the items above (respectively below): I simply can click on them.…
