  1. I would like to know if Adobe thinks of optimizing the management of tables in InDesign for the accessibility of PDF files

When will the automatic markup of tables (gender in table styles) like we do for paragraph styles (H1, H2, H3, BlockQuotes, List)?
    <TR> row
    <TH> header
    <TD> data
Example when you end up with one or more vertical TH "headers" so you don't have to manage that in the PDF

  2. Convert Table to Form

Should be a simple way to tell InDesign (and later Acrobat) that a table is a form.

Column A are the Field names, column B are the blank fields. No field recognition necessary, just spreadsheet logic. Even a dialog where you define which rows/columns are what would be a huge boost.

Would save 3 headaches: 1) not knowing if Acrobat will recognize the fields, 2) renaming each field 1-by-1, and 3) setting the text formatting 1-by-1 (Acrobat can batch this but InDesign can't).

  3. Repeat Table header?Skip the first row of the first table instead of the whole header of the first page

Duplicate header, there is an error.

Can I skip the first line of the header instead of the whole header.

What's the point of skipping the whole header on the first page?

My header has two lines. I skip the first line on the first page, which is more useful. How to operate?

David Blatner used a method, helpless, no real perfect solution.

    Adobe needs to improve.

  4. Apply more than one cell style to a cell

With more complex tables, such as those for financial reports, the number of cell styles required becomes very slow to work with.

This is because you may want one column in one colour, another in a different colour, but then a row stroke cuts across all the columns.

At the moment, InDesign only allows you to have one cell style applied per cell. This means that when you've styled your table using one cell style, e.g. a colour, when you then add the other cell style for a row stroke, it will override the first cell style.

    You then have…

  5. Select multiple full table to edition

I would like to edit several complete tables at once, to change the cell height, text size, side spaces, alignments, among other editions.

  6. Auto resize table when adding/removing column

Toggle an option so that when adding or removing a column in a table the column widths are restored to the total width. Now when adding or removing a column i have to manualy resize the columns until i can use 'Distribute Columns Evenly' and fill up the entire textbox again.

It also would be useful to just click 'auto resize' to equaly fill up the textbox by resizing the table.

  7. Lock Cells in Tables

It would be nice to be able to lock a cell and prevent content from being added or edited.

  8. Table numbering and easier cross-reference/text anchor setup in tables

It would be nice to be able to automatically number a specific row by just pressing a button, instead of using the "End Nested Style Here" command and copying/pasting in the following rows. It would also be nice if the corresponding column would read the number and be able to set up a text anchor for a paragraph number cross-reference.

  9. Specify subheader in addition to header, body (with alternating fills) and footer

I would like the ability to have a sub-header style applied to a table style. I design tables with a title (or header), an area for the column topics (or sub-header), and then a body with alternating fills, and a footer without a fill. It would be great to be able to apply one table style that will incorporate all of those styles. See the included table as an example of what I am trying to do.

  10. Table borders proxy: add "all"/"none" quick-select control; increase contrast of lines

To speed up formatting table borders, add a control in or near the proxy control (where you click on lines to select or deselect corresponding borders of the selected table region) to enable quickly selecting all of the borders or none of the borders.

Also, increase the contrast between the blue and gray colors used for the proxy lines as it is sometimes hard to tell the difference between them. Currently their values are almost identical (appx 60% black). Suggest lightening up the gray "unselected" color to 25-30% black.

  11. Hyphenation

I'm working on a huge table and as far as I can see, there's no way to select every cell and just turn off hyphenation. For some reason half the options with editing text formatting just aren't available for text in tables. You can turn off hyphenation if you go one cell at a time, but this isn't really feasible all the time.

  12. Table appearances preview

When changing the appearance of a table you have to highlight the table which is in Black. So when you want to preview the changes you cannot see what changes you have made.

  13. Allow Lock on Table Rows

Allow locking rows in tables so that we can keep the top row in place on all pages, while being able to add/remove rows without the top row moving up/down the page.

  14. Strokes > Content

I have to make sell sheets for work in InDesign semi-regularly, with one column being designated for product images. Having a way for strokes to be rendered over images would be great. Only way I’ve found of circumventing it has been to set the images to the Multiply style so the stroke can show through.

  16. Allow linked excel table to thread inside text thread

Its possible to insert linked excel table in text. But in this case table doesnt thread to the next page when it is long. From the othe side it`s possible to insert linked excel table as new story (as separate frame). In this case table threading is OK.But in this case you have to look for continuity of your document because there is no possibility to glue frames of text and tables to each other to provide continuity.

I would like the ability to have rotated text in tables, like we can already do in Word.

  18. Make cells split over 2 pages like they do in Word

Please Make cells split over 2 pages like they do in Word. We publish very large books that are updated all the time, having to manually cut cells at every page is an unimaginably heavy work load! And it is wasted work. It has to be redone every edition!

  19. reset cell shading

It would be helpful to be able to reset the alternating row/column shading. Similar to the way numbering can be reset in paragraph styles.

This way people can build in subhead rows or add more complex styling.

  20. Getting calendar events into a table

I cannot be the only person trying to do this, but have not seen a solution anywhere. I produce a monthly newsletter that has a calendar of events. I can export .ics files, make .csv files with the info formatted, but data merge doesn't seem to have a way to drop things into cells of a table.
Would love to find a script that let's me enter the URL of the public link to a Google calendar, prompt for a date range, grab data, then populate my lovely table.
My "manual solution" currently means using the clipboard for every event.
