Unlock InDesign Layer with password
In some cases you would like to create label template (layer 1) than lock it, when you pass it to another user he can't unlock layer 1 without permission (for example password).
The use is for workflow management in order to ensure artwork consistency by using single template.4 votes -
Copy/move image from one frame to another keeping original coordinates
Please make it standard (or at least possible) to copy or move an image from a frame to another frame and keep the position of the image identical to the original (or relatively identical when the frame sizes are different). I think it used to be like that in earlier versios of Indesign but since a couple of years this behaviour is gone.

Indesign should Natively already have the capability 2 expensive 3rd party plugins add. EasyCatalog and in5 should not be needed at all.
EasyCatalog plugin by 65bit vastly improves Indeisgn's terrrible and dated Data automation and catalogue ability. It is expensive and adds features indesign should do much better by now. Same is true for in5 a plug in to add html 5 export ability and makes up for the total abandonment of the DPS options. Lucidpress offers better digital magaizne options and spreadsheet linking at the moment.

Add the ability to Find/Replace linked images across multiple documents
The ability to Find/Replace links would be helpful, especially across multiple documents.
For example, if I have 20 instances of a.jpg on 10 documents, I would like the ability to be able to find all instances and replace with b.jpg without have to manually go into each document and do it one by one.

Illustrator views / layer visibility
In Illustrator, one can create custom views, which store both pan/zoom information but also, crucially, layer and sublayer visibility information. Being able to choose among these views when importing an Illustrator file would be very useful – imagine turning 40-ish layers on or off manually.
I frequently use different instances of the same Illustrator file in my InDesign work, with different Illustrator layers visible. The ability to use custom views would simplify this greatly.

Unequal inset values in an Object Style don't display in a text frame if corners are rounded
If you use an object style with unequal inset spacing and apply it to a text frame, the unequal spacing is ignore and made uniform.
Steps to recreate:
1. Create an Object Style
2. Go to 'Text Frame General Options' for that style
3. Set unequal values for 'Inset Spacing'
4. Go to 'Stroke & Corner Cptions'
5. In 'Corner Options' set 'Rounded'
6. Create a Text Frame
7. Fill Text Frame with placeholder text
8. Apply Object Style to Text FrameResult: unequal inset spacing is ignored.
If you apply unequal inset spacing manually there are no problems —…

Slug capabilities
When we set up a new indesign document for an ad or for a brochure, we incorporate slugs at the top and the bottom for tracking specs, revisions, and proofing. Our bottom slug has an internal proofing checklist that we don't like the client to see when we output for print or PDF. Before we can output we have to go into the document set up box and remove the slug at the bottom. Then we have to turn it back on when we get a revision. It would be extremely helpful if you could add slugs to the PDF…

Allowing 2-automatic page numbers/per page.
I work on proposals and we are usually limited to the number of pages within the document. It is often stated, that when we use an 11x17 page, this page counts as two pages in the proposal. It would be an amazing new feature if you could set up the option to have an additional automatic page number for these cases. Perhaps you could have an option to insert a second automatic page number on the master, or a feature that skips a number, starting the next 8.5x11 spread on the proper page number after counting the 11x17 as 2…

Place > (Show Import Options)
I use this feature daily and would so prefer to use my keyboard arrow keys to cycle through the image thumbnails than the tiny dialogue box arrows.

Footnotes -- align to bottom of page
I have struggled for hours and searched everything I can find to learn if Adobe has EVER YET come up with a method to align footnotes to the exact bottom of a page or text frame. Mine ride a little high here, a little low there, depending on various things happening in the main text, so that I can't get a consistent align-to-bottom and always must deal with this. CONSIDER THIS. When inserting a footnote, automatically create a separate text frame that can then be manipulated -- its alignment set to bottom, for instance. Now, THAT seems a no-brainer and…

Implement Adobe Sensei technology into InDesign
I recently attended the Adobe Symposium in Sydney, Australia, (as well as Adobe MAX in Las Vegas) and could not escape the phrase "Adobe Sensei" - Adobe's artificial intelligence software.
That said, is there any ability to implement Adobe Sensei technology into InDesign for any of the following purposes:
- Create a new indesign document based on a scan (for example, if I wanted to quickly create an invoice for a customer and all they had was a previously printed sample, I could scan the invoice and Adobe Sensei would do the rest, resulting in an InDesign file with type and…

Choosing a stroke color directly in 'Stroke' panel
Should be nice to have the opportunity to choose a stroke colour directly in the 'stroke panel' and then avoid the switch to 'swatches' or 'colour' panel.

Have option to display non-printing objects
Having an option to display non-printing objects can be very useful if you want to have notes or other visual markers in your document that you do not wish to be printed.
Right now when you choose an object to be non-printing, it becomes invisible. If you would have a checkbox that would toggle its visibility that would be great.

Add option to center Document Grid on page (instead of aligned left)
Please add an option to center the Document Grid to the middle of the page. That is, instead of the origin of the grid being placed at the top left of the document, have an option to place the grid origin at the top center of the page. This way, extra space that "overflows" the grid is evenly distributed at the edges of the document (as a kind of default gutter), instead of the current behavior, in which the grid is aligned to the left edge of the document and any "overflow" space is only on the right side of…

Improve shadows on items from master page.
I have a document with a page number placeholder on the master page b/c I'm making hundreds of Table Number cards for an event. I have a drop shadow on the number on the master page. When I click over to the regular pages, the shadow still shows as the "A" from the master page placeholder, instead of a shadow from the 1, 2, 3, etc from each new page. You have to manually break the link on each page for the shadow to reflect the individual numbers. The whole idea of the master pages is that you shouldn't have…

Add "Square" and "Cirlce" to the [Object>>Convert Shape] menu options
I use Object >> Convert Shape a lot. But with the existing options, if I want to convert to a square/circle I have to first convert to a rectangle/ellipse, then manually enter width and height dimensions to make them equal. Would be nice to skip that step and just have direct option to convert to square/circle.

Relinking manually? Why?
Why make the user search each image individually to relink? For some reason, some images are losing their links when the files have been in the same location on my hard drive for years. When this happens I have to go search the file name and relink manually. There has to be a very easy way to automate this.

Ability to toggle between guide type between spread and page
When a guide is selected I would like to see a button next to the current options to toggle the type of a guide between spread or page guide. To do this now, this requires dragging the guide outside or inside the page, which comes with a certain amount of 'uncertainty' (is it still in the same place? did smart guides try to align it with something else? ...)

Seamless editing between applications.
I want to be able to place a creative asset inside InDesign, then right click and choose "edit in Photoshop" or "edit in Illustrator", and any saved changes would reflect in the original InDesign document.
For example, I inserted an old PDF file into InDesign because it contains a logo which I do not have the vector file anymore then resized the image block to only show the logo and not the rest of the document. Now I want to create a new vector file of the logo in Illustrator, and it would save a lot of time and effort…
