Precise Text Wrap Control for Column Rules
I love the Column Rules feature in the Text Frame Options Dialogue. What keeps me from using it as often as I'd like is due to how column rules interact with text wrap.
I'd like to have: 1. Numerical control of how rules wrap independent from text in the text wrap dialogue box, or: 2. The ability for rules to be locked to baseline grids. Perhaps having both would give the perfect amount of control?
Please see my screen grab attached. You will see that the body copy wraps as expected, but the column rule does not. It's sticking above…

cropping
Would it be possible to add a link to a watermark? When someone wants to crop out the water mark that it re-appears after its was cropped?

Formatting bullet points
Implement a simpler way to format bullet points in InDesign. For example, in Microsoft Word, you can simply hit Enter and then Tab to create a Tier 2 bullet, with predefined spacing. While I understand the use of character styles, tabs, and paragraph styles for bullets, it often takes me and my colleagues a long time to remember how to format them correctly. I love typesetting, but the bullet formatting always trips me up!

Option to ignore hidden spreads while auto checking spelling or find/change etc.
There are a few posts surrounding hidden spreads. Perhaps all these could be view as a whole when tackling.
My specific feature request is that automated text editing functions such as Find/Change and Spell check have an option to disregard content on hidden spreads. Currently the checking process for each of these (and possibly others such a replace font etc.) is interrupted by having found object on hidden spreads and requires that they be unhidden to progress. Keeping spreads hidden is not an option as clicking OK to the prompt that pops up ends the checking process.
Also while considering…

Line-Based Paragraph Shading Option
Currently, InDesign’s Paragraph Shading feature applies shading across the entire width of the paragraph, regardless of the actual length of the text on each line. This often results in large shaded areas extending far beyond the end of the text, which is visually unappealing and requires complex workarounds.
Please add an option to apply paragraph shading per line, so that the shading extends only as far as the text on that line. This would allow for much cleaner typography, especially in cases like poetry, short line breaks, lists, or multi-line titles.

Preflight incorrectly flagging Adobe fonts as "protected"
Adobe InDesign's preflight is displaying an incorrect message whenever Adobe fonts have been used in artwork. The specific warning is "Fonts not allowed: Protected" and then suggests to change the font to something else.
I feel that Indesign is false-flagging these fonts as they behave differently to other fonts that are usually installed or referenced on a user's machine. If anything, the preflight shouldn't warn about them at all if they are correctly loaded.1 vote -
Upgrade font selection dialog to match new Illustrator format and capabilities
The Illustrator team are upgrading the font selection dialog, so that there are now three versions: Photoshop's, InDesign's, and Illustrator's. At this point (September 2025), the Illustrator beta is the most capable and flexible.

AI agent for remembering text content style
I often work with instruction manuals that have been poorly translated, and I need to reword them so they read clearly and professionally. A lot of the content is similar across different jobs, and I’d like to stay consistent with how I’ve written things in the past without having to dig through old files manually.
It would be great if InDesign had an AI agent that could:
Learn my style and remember my text preferences (e.g. whether I use “kg” or “KG”).
Automatically reference past projects so I don’t have to copy/paste from older manuals and allow me to ask…

Keyboard shortcut for Align Justify w/last line right
The default action in the Align Justify keyboard shortcut is to align the last line in the paragraph to the left (Shift+Cmd+J).
There is no keyboard shortcut to align the last line to the right. Please add it; it’s very important to my RTL text workflow.1 vote -
Typographer’s quotes need to be the default
I have been using InDesign since 2006. The so-called “typographer’s quotation marks” that are an option that needs to be activated in the settings menu are quotation marks. Set as default is a glyph denoting an inch. This cannot be used instead of quotation marks and why that even is an option in pro software is incomprehensible. Even though the majority of InDesign users will be typographers, it is unnecessary to create an opportunity for less knowledgable users to make mistakes. – It’s a relic from the typewriter keyboard where there was only one glyph available for quotation marks and…

Non-breaking Forward Slash Character
In addition to the existing “Nonbreaking Hyphen” and “Nonbreaking Space” options, it would be very useful to have a “Nonbreaking Slash” (/) character. This would prevent line breaks after slashes in certain contexts (e.g., dates, codes, abbreviations), improving typographic control.

We need text variables whose values can change PER SECTION.
I'm mystified that there's no way to (for example) specify a name for a section in a document. "Section marker" is not a solution, because you frequently need to use that to display a section NUMBER (which should also be a built-in marker).
So I created a text variable called "section name," but found it was useless because there's no way to set a variable's value per section. Don't most document sections have names?

Incorporate a feature in the view dropdown that lists all the languages used within a document
I work with documents from an international company and even though the document looks like English it can use several different languages. I need to identify those languages and change them to English USA. A dropdown option that lists all the languages used within the same document would be incredibly helpful. As of now I have to use the find / replace tool to guess what languages may be used and replace them. Sometimes it can be upwards of five different languages.

Make text wrap around Drop Cap
Please make the text wrap around the Drop Cap as it does when you make the Drop Cap into an object. See examples. This would save about 10 minutes of faffing around for every Drop Cap. Doesn't seem like much but it's a pain when you're working on a book with many chapters.

Change hypenation-language for all text frames at the same time
I would like to select all text frames on one page and change the (hypenation-)language for all of them at the same time. This would save a lot of time when working with seveal languages in the same document.
I know, that I can add new paragraph styles with the corresponding language setting. But that takes way too much time. In our documents, each language has its own layer.1 vote -
Font Paths
In the Links pallet, I can see the path to a link; EVEN if it's missing I can see where it was linked from. I would like the same thing for Fonts. In Find/Replace fonts I can only see a path to fonts that are found. I would like a path for Missing fonts, so I know--- were the activated through the Cloud? Or from someone's Font folder (and not properly Packaged). If I know, I can either Activate the fonts from Adobe, or retrieve the fonts from their local hiding place. It would remove the risk of activating an…

Span Columns -- please allow to control width of individual columns
I posted this same note under a topic called "Uneven columns," thinking it was to do with Span Columns. I realized later that it was referring to text frame columns. I am reposting here; please excuse the redundancy.
I run into this over and over and over again when typesetting business text books. Sometimes bullet items are long and sometimes short. The way columns work now, I'm forced to have some of the longer bullet text break to two lines even though, if i could adjust the column widths and have better control over the gutter, there would be ample…
