UI – Some Buttons are missing InDesign CC 2020 (OS X)
Hello,
I’ve updated InDesign to the newest version 15.0 (InDesign CC 2020) on OS X.
And some buttons in the top window border are missing like the percent and the GPU rocket.
Is it possible to put these back?! Or do I have to change it anywhere in the menu? Can’t find it.
Best
Sascha
The InDesign team appreciates your valuable feedback and concerns. These go a long way in helping us make InDesign better for you and update it continuously to cater to evolving user needs. The app bar design was changed as part of these improvement efforts, and will also help us in introducing some modern and exciting functionalities which we have been working on.
While doing this, we have taken care not to remove any existing functionalities which were available in the previous App Bar design. These have only been relocated – either grouped along with similar functionalities (based on results from our user research) or shifted to improve usability (to provide a consistent experience) while working across Creative Cloud apps, especially Photoshop (Ps) & Illustrator (Ai), which are frequently used by InDesign users. We do understand that it takes time & effort in adopting these but we sincerely hope that the value will reveal itself as we work together with you in defining the future of layout & publishing.
__
Here is a list of the re-located functionalities -
Bridge: can now be accessed via “File > Browse in Bridge” – similar to Ps & Ai.
Stock: the search option in the app bar (on the far right) allows you to search assets across Adobe Stock. Stock can also be accessed via “File > Search Adobe Stock”.
GPU options: can now be accessed via “InDesign > Preferences > GPU Performance …” – similar to Ps & Ai.
Zoom levels: are now available at the bottom left of the App window.
Document Bar (on the far left) – similar to Ps & Ai. This location is same as what was available in past versions when users used InDesign without the app bar. Zoom levels can also be controlled through keyboard shortcuts: (Cmd +) or (Cmd -) to help you work faster.
Screen Mode: has now shifted below the Tool Bar (bottom-most icon). It can also be accessed via “View > Screen Mode” – similar to Ps & Ai.
View Options: is now available in proximity to the Screen Mode icon (below the Tool Bar), owing to the similarity of their functions. The drop-down menu showcases corresponding shortcuts for each view option which can enable you to work faster.
Arrange Documents: can now be accessed via “Window > Arrange” – similar to Ps & Ai.

Please bring the Screen Mode button back. It is really cumbersome to have to go back and forth from the View menu. Designers use this feature every day.

In this case “as designed” is the same as “stupid design”. You are focusing on the wrong things Adobe. Bring them back!

Having the same problem. Any resolution by now?

At least bring back screen mode in the top bar, that is used all the time for most designers!

I see that you've made Tables more robust - but have also removed the cell stroke options and other
very helpful shortcuts from the top bar.Having to access everything from the Table palette menu is much more time-consuming than in previous versions of this application.
I can't agree with the other comments enough about how removing the shortcuts from the top bar makes using InDesign 2020 very cumbersome and unhelpful.

Yeah, where did these buttons go?? I want them back, please. Is there a setting somewhere?

I agree. Moving screen mode from top bar to tool bar is impairment on the UI.

Ditto... I'm looking for it as well. I use it all the time... and it's not there. Please add them back in.

HI there.
If you are connected, and update applications through Adobe Cloud, then you can revert to previous appliction. See menu popup next to Update Button. Only catch is what ever you have created will now need to be update before opening and resaved. Good thing though all your previous tool bars will be there. -

I feel like this is a sign of failure behind the scenes. The screen mode button and other top toolbar items should not have been removed. The fact that you think its ok to remove something so relied upon is telling, and it doesn't look good for the future of adobe.

Adobe, are you kidding? WTH are the (View Options, Screen Mode, Arrange Documents) toggle buttons in Indesign 2020? HIGHLY annoying that they are missing, I can't seem to figure out how to add them back in. Can you?
20 years of using Indesign and now you are taking things away from our relationship. What gives?

Agreed! Let users decide what buttons are in the top bar (where the new home icon is). I miss the Arrange Windows button!

Where is arrange windows shortcut button in the new Indesign 2020 release? Why can't we define what buttons are in the top bar and/or turn off the "home" icon?

Put the screen mode button back in the tool bar. At the very least, make screen mode something that can be added back into the toolbar. Removing it was a horrible error on the part of whomever created this update.

The changes to the top bar are not terribly helpful. It might be a good idea to ask customers who have been using your products for 30+ years what they need before eliminating features. The same sort of thing happens with the OS interface too and it is such a productivity killer.
Those of us in book publishing are extremely alarmed that Adobe will not be supporting Type 1 Postscript fonts starting in 2021. Our entire backlist of books is our greatest asset. Selling them is how we can stay in business. The ability to make corrections to them, as needed, is imperative. What's your plan for a work-around on that? If we can't make corrections to older books in our backlist without reflowing text, then will we all be forced to revert to Quark Xpress?. If you think the publishers are upset, wait until the print vendors find out! Yikes. :-o

Piling on here after updating to 2020. The view %, preview mode etc buttons in the top menu bar were constantly used in earlier versions. So inconvenient now.

Where're the toggling buttons between fill, line and text color swatches. How do I reactivate them for God's sake?
