Add Text Macros like in InCopy
I create a lot of documents that have textual elements that are repetitive, like resumes that include a project description. When using MS Word, I use the Quick Parts functionality to capture that text and insert it whenever I need it.
My company is just beginning to explore the InDesign/InCopy workflow, and I saw that InCopy has a feature much like Quick Parts, called Text Macros. I could really use this if it was implemented in InDesign as well. I have used Autocorrect for similar functionality, but I have never tried it with more than a few words at a…

Text Variable as a consecutive number
Possibility of defining and inserting a text variable as a consecutive number of the list.
Thanks to this variable it will be possible to number subsequent words in a sentence. For example (1) thing, (2) thing, (3) thing etc, or thing1, thing2, thing3 etc. There are infinitely many possibilities. Verse of poetry at the end of the verse etc. References to comments which are not endnotes or footnotes (without laborious definition of cross references). Sometimes it is necessary to list the words or any fragment of text within a paragraph, or to add numbered references to comments inside the text.…

Slant button to create faux italics
A one-click button to slant text and create faux italics.
Yes, the resulting text won't be real italics. Yes, typographic snobs will look down on InDesign and on you as a designer for using it.
But on projects were it doesn't matter, we get one-button access to make our clients happy and move onto projects where it real italics do matter.
I remember a time when this button was in InDesign, for the love of god, please bring it back.

Endnotes from Word as plain text, please. Just like it used to be.
Could you please add the option to InDesign to import Word files with endnotes as plain text? Just like it used to be?
The new footnote and endnote features are disastrous for my work as a book designer.
InDesign shouldn't become a text processor, I think. It is a design tool.3 votes -
Font style and weight should be separate properies
I think text properties should be more adapted to the CSS structure. This includes applying several styles to a character/paragraph but that topic has already been discussed here https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/31112107-allow-multiple-character-styles-to-be-applied-to-c
This time, My suggestion is to separate weight (thin, light, regular, medium, bold, black, etc.) from style (italic, oblique, etc.). I know this would be a major change but it's worthy. This would make character styling much easier.
Maybe width (compressed, condensed, extended, etc.) property should be an option, but this isn't important.

Formatting page ranges for cross-references and indexing
It would be good to be able to change the coding in the format of cross-referenced page numbers (and Indexing cross-references) so that instead of the two cross-referenced pages displaying [236]-[238], they could display [236]-[8] or [236]-[38]. Formatting page ranges now ALL has to be done manually, because publishers don't typically use the full number in the second of a range.

Tighter integration of TypeKit
It seems silly that when you open an InDesign document and it uses TypeKit fonts that aren't available, there is no direct link to take you to the website and fix this.
Firstly, it should just automatically activate the fonts if they're in TypeKit and you haven't already hit your limit.
Secondly, if for some reason this behaviour is undesirable, you should be able to activate them from within InDesign. The process for new/occasional users is actually quite hard: a vague mention of the Creative Cloud app is all you get. Many users don't know what that is. Then you…

Snap Tabs to document grid / Distribute Tabs
I think it would be great when setting Tabs, this would snap to the document grid. Saves a lot of time in contrast to setting each tab numerically.
Another great addition would be the possibility to Distribute tabs. Comes in handy with imported text where sequential standard tabs were used.3 votes -

CMD+B and CMD+U to cycle through Bold or Underline Styles through a popup window would be handy.

Kerning Issues Between Text and Tabs
A detail about kerning/tracking that seems to have slipped through the cracks: how text and tabs interact with each other in Indesign.
I noticed this while doing fillable forms with underscores. The space after the type wildly varies in distance, and from what I can tell, there is no way to automatically or manually adjust it. I tried switching kerning between manual and optical, with no results. I tried manually adjusting the kerning, which doesn't affect it either. The spacing seems to be related to the length of the text.
A visual example:

Separate text into different boxes in one stroke
We've all been handed a huge text file and asked to create a new document. From the sub par word processing program it came from, we begin the mind numbing process of cut/copy/paste.
You can cut headers, sub headers etc. and paste them into their own text box. But when you have to do it five hundred times, it's awful. And no, reflowable text is not the solution.
What if you could drag a selection around the text you needed to be separate and it would "snap" into it's all new, very own text frame? eh?
pretty please?

In-paragraph autonumerated lists
Quite often we have to create numbered lists, each element of which is a separate paragraph with a number or letter in front of it. But sometimes we need to build a long list that will be contained in one paragraph (enumeration), (for example, a) ...; b) ...; ... n) ... or 1) ...; 2) ...; ... 999). ). When such a list is being edited (its parts are added or deleted), such indexes also need to be edited manually, which takes a lot of time.
My idea is to add a new marker type (such as a page number…

Glossary
Microsoft Word had a really neat Glossary entry feature which allowed you to store your most commonly used words/phrases, and call them up with a key command. I have dumped Word in favor of using InDesign for all my word processing, since I can have style sheets and do everything else I want inside this wonderful program…except glossary feature. I don't know if that would add too much clutter to InDesign, which I wouldn't like, but if it could be added on, wow, would that be a powerful feature.
