  1. Make EXPORT and print dialogues more correct

The “spreads” function when combined with bleeds or trims options should warn to the effect that “Printers rarely accept spreads are you sure?”

While we are at it, the standard pressready setting should include bleeds.

Sick of sending back files advising that spreads is not a "print ready" and explaining what bleed is and how include bleed on pdf.

  2. Character Limits, Comb Line Form Fields and Font Alignment for Form Fields

    Hello,

I would like to suggest that character limits can be set for comb line form fields. Also I would like there to be a possibility of creating comb line form fields (without creating tables). In addition, there should be alignment of the text as an option in the form field (whether left, center or right). This would save so much time and effort so that once the document is exported as a tagged PDF, those features mentioned would also be set. Finally, there should be a way to tag layout tables so that it does not register as a…

  3. Show bleed between spreads or make it possible to mix spreads and single pages in the same InDesign document

In a magazine you always have a combination of spreads and single pages for separate topics. In a InDesign document you can't work with a combination of spreads and single pages.

In order to print a PDF by an offset printer, 3 mm bleed is required all around a page. Further it is required that all the pages in the PDF are exported as single pages with bleed and crop marks. This works fine for a spread that has one big image that overlaps both pages of a spread. But not for a spread that has an seperate page layout…

  4. Enable black only trim and bleed marks for digital print export.

Enabling black only trim and bleed marks will reduce the need for third party software. Digital presses print process marks in full color on black and white pages. These have to be removed so that the client does not pay color rates for black and white pages in a book.

  5. bookmark zoom level

It would be a lifesaver to be able to set the bookmark zoom level in InDesign (whatever it defaults to now, "Fit Page", I think, isn't great for everyone), so that when it exports to PDF you can already have it set to "Inherit Zoom" (or whatever you need) rather than having to manually figure out a way to do it in Acrobat. When you edit the bookmark zoom level in Acrobat, there's not even a way to do it from the InDesign action that's there--you have to basically create a whole new bookmark, redirect it and then set the…

  6. Save PDFs in Black and White

Currently to get my pdfs in black and white I either have to edit each photo individually or I have to export it from indisegn, pull into photoshop, turn black and white, then bring it into illustrator to save as a pdf. This is ludicrous. There should just be an option to save a pdf of the document in black and white. This has been on the community boards for over 4 years and still isn't done.

  9. Batch Export indb

I would need to have the ability to batch export a folder of books to pdf. The community scripts are not enough—there are features missing.

Also batch export would have to have
    – auto update links in documents,
    – auto closing and saving (otherwise page numbers are wrong in shared documents).

  10. "Buttons and Forms" panel desperately needs the ability to "add an image" form field

It's imperative to add to the "Buttons and Forms" panel the ability to "add an image" form field. Primarily due to ADA compliancy regarding logical reading order and layering order. Adding an image form field in Acrobat creates a nightmare of reorganizing tags. It's cumbersome and far from efficient. Plus any future edits to the InDesign file, all of the preceding must be recreated each and every time. This is a must needed feature for interactive form filling PDFs that adhere to Accessibility standards.

  11. InDesign: convert text to outlines when exporting to PDF

When exporting a file from Indesign instead of using the Transparency Flattner Presets and then start changing things on the PDF export popup, I suggest to add a checkmark on the PDF export popup - Convert all texts to outlines.

Itll make it more easy to all of the users, Iam working with Indesign for more than 10 years, each time I installed anew version of Indesign i needed to configure it again and each time I didn't understand why didn't you add this option.

    Thanks,
    Idan

  12. Export Preset Suffix

I use different presets in Indesign for the PDF export. See screenshot. I work in RGB workflow and export different papers in CMYK etc.

work with a very strict naming convention for documents like PDF.
This means that the naming can be used to determine whether the document is HighEnd PDF or View for Customer.

Indesign takes over the document name for the export. I add the export names like e.g:

    Document A LowEnd.pdf
    Document A X4 High U.pdf
    Document A Screen 150dpi.pdf

I have to do this manually in each case.
It would be great if you could also…

  13. Export Adobe PDF viewing size

A minor request, but hopefully not too difficult: Under the General > Viewing section in the Export Adobe PDF dialog box, it would be nice to be able to input a custom viewing size %, or to at least have more % options over 100% (perhaps to match Acrobat's options). It helps curate the experience I want my clients to have when viewing my files. Thanks!

  14. Please add a feature in InDesign - "Turn Page" swf in transition location at "Page>Attribute"

Please add a feature in InDesign - "Turn Page" swf in transition location at "Page>Attribute"

This is very important for customer who want to make flip book. It is because we very disappointed that your Adobe Apps no support this feature in new version , Cannot make Flipbook. I hope your Adobe apps got this feature to make flip book in future. Thanks

  15. Watermarking

Add an option to export as a watermarked copy and allow a text box to add the watermark desired and allow an intensity box. Also, give the option to supply a password to anyone you would like to remove the watermark once the file is received.

  16. InDesign needs to export to PDF/UA

There is currently no option to export to PDF/UA compliant PDF files. PDF/UA is an ISO standard and base for compliance to accessibility laws.

Especially in the public sector, where you need to create documents that comply to accessibility regulations this is a must!

We plan to use InDesign to create accessible PDF forms at a public university in Austria. We are bound by laws to only use software, that allows us to produce accessible content. The creative cloud bundle and acrobat are industry standards, and it is not understandable, why InDesign as part of this suite does not apply…

  17. Interactive features retained when PDFs placed in InDesign

When PDFs are placed into an INDD layout, and then the layout is exported to a new PDF, all of the interactive features in the 1st (or source) PDF are removed:

-- Hyperlinks in the source PDF
-- Buttons in the source PDF
-- Accessibility tags and functions in the source PDF

It's as if the PDF is treated like a dead graphic. All of the interactive features built into it are lost and must be recreated manually in Acrobat.

Two excellent examples of how disastrous this is for designers:

    1) When a magazine places a PDF of an advertiser's…

  18. Pdf with images folder paths links

Sometimes we work on big catalogues with lots of images. And sometimes those images are located in various folders accross our servers and we cannot move them until the work is done.
Lots of times my post production coworkers, to speed up the work, ask me the folder path of some images, and i need every time to open the catalogue, search the image and check the links panel to tell him the right folder path.

I'm asking to put an option, when we create pdf's, to automatically insert the folder path over every image inside the pdf.

    I made…

  19. Export PDF from InDesign with comments pre marked up

Load in comments in InDesign and export to PDF.
Currently, you need to export to PDF > Open in Acrobat find the section to add the comment.

Would be killer and save time - Cheers :)

  20. Automatically convert table cells to fillable forms for PDF

Currently, as far as I know, adding fillable forms to a table requires drawing a text frame above each form. This is time consuming. It should be possible to create text fields from existing cells.
