Please let us know if the below-mentioned workaround works for you:
- Try restarting your Windows machine.
- Use the “Restart” option and NOT “Shutdown”.—
Adobe InDesign teamAn error occurred while saving the comment I had no problem with the 16.4 version, but now I'm on 17.01 , the icon for the files doesn't appear either.
I'm on windows 10.
I desisntall it and came back at the 16.4 version, and it appear again. I think I would desinstall 17.01 if it persist.
I restad my computer several times also... -

The app bar design was changed as part of these improvement efforts, and will also help us in introducing some modern and exciting functionalities which we have been working on.
While doing this, we have taken care not to remove any existing functionalities which were available in the previous App Bar design. These have only been relocated – either grouped along with similar functionalities (based on results from our user research) or shifted to improve usability (to provide a consistent experience) while working across Creative Cloud apps, especially Photoshop (Ps) & Illustrator (Ai), which are frequently used by InDesign users. An error occurred while saving the comment I'm agree it's really frustrating to have to go into a scroll menu to simply show your artwork's preview. I know there are already in the left menu, but for me it's not the place to be, it's not a tool, just like the zoom option.

I saw a first post from 2018, and it's not yet working ? Why for some people it is and not for others...?
