Closing this thread.The fix for this issue is now available in the latest update 14.0.2 of InDesign 2019.
If you are unable to see the update notification yet, open the menu (three dots) from the top-right of Creative Cloud desktop application and click on ‘Check For App Updates’.
Once the update button is shown against InDesign, click on the button to update to Id 14.0.2.If you face any problems with the new update, do let us know in the comments.

Adding a small folder icon next to each "recent" file would be awesome. Clicking the folder would take you to that document's folder via explorer or bridge (adding a preference option for the default).
Often times I will open a recent file just so I can click the "reveal in explorer" button - then close the document as a faster way to get to the folder I need (I work on a server so everything is buried a mile down a folder tree).

It was never solved in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and today....
I make a .bat file with the following:
start /max "" "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign 2021\InDesign.exe" start
It won't solve the problem if you launch InDesign by double clicking a file, but if you put the .bat file in your start menu and give it an icon it'll open as full screen.
Pretty ****** workaround but it works.

InDesign refuses to install properly on one of my machines. It functions fairly normally except there are several items MISSING from the preferences settings that are there on my secondary machine. Same version same everything. One of the missing options is the ability to turn off that terrible home screen and the other is that my document randomly resets (mid project even) to the Essentials workspace. Thankfully without the tutorial.
I have uninstalled - reinstalled - with and without copying preferences from the 2020 version. It is a mess and I have not seen any mention of this except for your post.
I hope it gets sorted out.

I have had this same problem since at least 2018. I have not found a fix. I have to maximize (I only run maximized, never windowed) and then have to reset my workspace as the tool bar reverts to a single column and any panels revert to condensed.
The workaround I have used (which does not work for launching INDD via double clicking a document, only via an icon in the start menu or desktop or wherever). is the following:
> Make a text file called "InDesign.bat" next to the InDesign.exe file
> With a text editor enter the following into the .bat file (using the location of your installation):
start /max "" "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign 2021\InDesign.exe" start
> Make a shortcut to the .bat file in your start menu or wherever you want it
> I then set the icon of the shortcut to the INDD icon so it looks goodThis way when you launch the shortcut it loads runs the .bat file which tells InDesign to launch in a maximized window.
I could never get the regular start menu shortcut to launch InDesign maximized using the standard "Run: Maximized" dropdown in the file properties.
Hope that helps! (until they fix it.......)

Rudolf - I just looked again in case I missed it. The option is there in 2020 (v15) but in 2021 (v16) it is gone :-(

This is exactly my scenario! I have quite a few many-layered technical drawings of products in Illustrator. In InDesign I activate different layers to show various stages of the construction of the product in instructional documents. Being able to accurately import the various VIEWS from Illustrator eliminates the hunt-and-peck layer activation in InDesign and eliminates errors caused by missing a layer.
