There are many internal as well as external factors that can cause the InDesign application to crash/freeze/hang.
A few workarounds are listed at https://helpx.adobe.com/in/indesign/kb/crash-on-launch.html.
We would recommend you to upgrade to latest version as it is more robust.
If you still face this issue even after updating, please submit the crash report to us. (Guidelines to submit crash are available at https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html)

Hi,
As confirmed by the user, the issue is resolved.—
Adobe InDesign TeamAn error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedFirst thing: hasn't recurred. Was this an artifact of the installer.
Apps running: Excel, Avira VPN, Preview, Mail, Activity monitor MacOS is up to date Machine is a MacBook Air bought a month or so ago. 16GB memory, lots of space on HD.
I literally left my machine running and went off to do something else. Lunch took an hour. When I returned InDesign was not responding, said the OS. When I used activity monitor to kill it the whole machine locked. No data was lost after the restart, and I was able to use the machine uninterrupted for the next 7 or 8 hours.

The fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2021(v16.0.0.77). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application and click on the context menu on the top right and click on Check for App Updates.

Adobe InDesign TeamAn error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedHi,
I printed (successfully) to an external printer direct from InDesign, but as the printer kicked into life the application crashed, and MacOS then sent a diagnostic file to Apple/ you/ all of the above.
The document I printed (the previously updated table of contents for a book) looked fine, but I did need to restart InDesign. So far, everything else has been going fine. :)

Thank you everyone for your continued patience! Apple just released the macOS High Sierra 10.13 Supplemental Update. This will fix the cursor issue with InDesign on macOS High Sierra. Please go to the App Store to update.
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedThe problem seems intermittent; mostly I can see it, but not always. If I leave InDesign running for a long time (overnight, eg) it seems to be worse. It doesn't make the product completely unusable, but it doesn't make life easy!

I've had this problem myself, but was able to resolve it by turning Private Relay (see the Apple ID panel in preferences) off. InDesign then loaded and ran as before.
Before I did that I had cleared all my caches and restarted the machine. Note that I have a 2020 Intel Mac.
