Incorrect re-linking of image files with rotation metadata
This bug occurs in all versions of InDesign.
InDesign reflects the EXIF orientation in the transform panel when an image file is placed. However, under the following conditions, the result of relinking will be incorrect.
- The image file is rotated 90 degrees with EXIF orientation.
- In the transform panel, the vertical and horizontal percentage values are different.
Image files taken with an iPhone often retain the EXIF orientation rotation. If such a file is placed in indd by the client and the vertical and horizontal percentage values are different, there will be a problem that will cause drastic changes in…
21 votesHi all,
We tried various scenarios with the attached file and got the following results:
1. Placed the ‘EXIF-Orientation-6.jpg’ file shared in the thread.
-Rotation angle of the content was shown as -90°2. Edited the .jpg file in Photoshop to just change the color and Updated the link in InDesign.
-Rotation angle of the content was changed to 0°3. Then placed this edited file again, as a new link, in InDesign.
-Rotation angle was shown as 0°Are you also seeing the same results?

Preserve Image Dimensions when Relinking and "Auto-fit" options do not seem to work.
I am using Indesign 14.0
When I relink files, Indesign changes the scale and placement of images automatically, regardless of whether the preserve image dimensions option in the file handling box is checked or unchecked, and whether the "auto-fit" button in the tool menu is checked or uncheked.
Preferences > File Handling > "Preserve Image Dimensions when Relinking"
16 votesPlease describe the issue in more detail.
What is the state of “Preserve Image Dimensions When Relinking” in Preferences – is it checked or unchecked? What is the state of “Auto-Fit” – is it checked or unchecked?—

Placing illustrator files is very very very slow after update
After updating AI and INDD, placing AI files into INDD is taking a very long time. I made an update to an AI file that was placed into an existing INDD files that contains 13 placed AI files. I only updated a few of the linked AI files. Prior to the AI and INDD update, updating these placed links took a few seconds each max. Now, just to update the two links takes about 2 minutes.
This MAY be an AI bug, but I don't know how make that determination as I updated bothat the same time.

Linked EPS appears with jagged/rough edges even on High Quality Display
I've never seen this before, but linked vector EPS files aren't previewing properly in InDesign. The edges are super jagged when they should be smooth lines.
3 votesPlease mention the version of InDesign you’re seeing this issue with.
Also, if you could share a couple of sample EPS files, it would be great. Please send these to sharewithID@adobe.com—

Can't select gradients from swatches
Since installing the new InDesign 2021, I'm not able to apply my colour swatches to the gradient bar. When I click on a colour swatch, it changes the main fill rather than the gradient colour.
This was working before the update.
3 votesTo apply a swatch to one of the gradient stops, you have to hold down the Alt key and then click on a Swatch in the Swatches panel. Clicking directly on any of the swatches changes the fill color of the object to the Swatch color instead of changing the color of the gradient stop.
Please confirm the above in the previous release as well as InDesign 2021.—

High Quality Display Not working
I have used INDD for about 15 years. Very experienced. but just upgraded it to CC2019 along with Mac OS Mojave 10.14.1. I can no longer see images in high quality (since the upgrades). I have triple checked everything. (image res, all INDD settings etc..) Is this a known issue?
3 votesWe guess you must have already checked your Display Performance settings. Could you confirm if it is set to HQ? Also, are all links up-to-date?

2022 InDesign bugs
when using ID 2021 and before, When I sized a graphic, say, from 100 to 50%, the info box would say the graphic is now 50%. In ID 2022, when I reduce a graphic, the box says it is 100%. I am not liking this.

Color Reading Completely Incorrectly
Adobe. This is an insane problem to have not fixed.
Colors are seriously displaying incorrectly. From one program to another the colors look different and they do not at all match the way the color read in 2018.
The attached shows the same color in Indesign 2019 (left) and Illustrator 2019 (right)
This is a serious issue that people have been having since the 2019 update and I cannot believe there is not an update to fix this yet.
Every time Adobe releases an update lately I hesitate to download. The ideas behind the updates are intended to increase functionality…

Visibility of levels of embedded AI files are not kept
When I use an AI file with multiple layers, InDesign 2020 (v. 15.1.3) doesn't keep the right visibility of layers when I update the AI file. The same is true when I re-open the InDesign file.
Same for InDesign 2021 (v. 16.0)
Not sure if this also happens with multilayered PSD files, I didn't checked yet.
Tried to recreate the file from scratch, no way to solve the issue. The problem never occurred in previous version of InDesign.

Bounding box is always on the outside of the stroke
Ever since I updated to the latest InDesign (InDesign 15.0.1), the bounding box is always on the outside of the stroke so instead of objects snapping to the box they are snapping to the outside of the stroke.
1 voteIn InDesign, the bounding box has always been on the outside of the stroke. It has not been changed at all. In which version of InDesign were you seeing this behaving differently than the current version?

TIff
Can't place TIF or PNG files into InDesign. The internet tells me that I can, however I've been trying for hours and it only works when I convert to JPG.
1 voteIt is possible to place TIF/PNG files in InDesign. No need to convert to JPG. We’ve tried this and it works for us.
To see why it is not working for you, could you share a sample TIF/PNG file with us (sharewithid@adobe.com)?Adobe InDesign team

images are missing
When opening v.2018 Indesign files or new v.2019 files, bitmap images are not displayed. Images are shown as gray boxes with an X across the box (see attached). Display settings changes do not remedy the problem.
I have to work in v.2018 until this is fixed.
ID version 14.0
1 voteWhat is the creator application of these Bitmap images? Which file format(s) are you placing in InDesign?
Could you also share a couple of these images as we don’t see a problem with our files?Adobe InDesign team

InDesign Enlarges New Assets larger than their Bounding Box
Since the new update, every time I drag an image or logo, etc. into Indesign and drag out how large I want the asset to be displayed....
- Indesign places it (after a short delay), but makes the bounding box smaller than the actual asset. So the logo gets partially covered by the bounding box.I'm not using the content aware sizing or anything. The bounding box should exactly match the asset as its being dragged in for the first time. Very frustrating.
1 voteHi Patrick,
We’re sorry to hear that the latest version of InDesign is not behaving as per your expectations.
You said that you are not using Content Aware Sizing. However, could you check once again to see if you have enabled the setting ‘Make Content-Aware Fit the default frame fitting option’ in the Preferences dialog (under General section)?
Also it would be helpful if you can show us a quick demo of the issue and/or share the file (along with the asset).Ravi Kiran

For some reason my design in indesign is not fully visible when i am working on it, even when i select fast display or high quality display
it is so annoying to be working on my design and not to be able to see all of my work on my screen as so much of it is blank, and is only visible when i export it as a jpeg. THis is so unprofessional and inconsistent when trying to design that i can clearly see all of my work as i edit and improve it. Can you please investigate and improve the software so my work is visible as i continue to edit. Also have the screen is in grey and the other half in white like a…

Find Missing Pathfinder
Please restore now Missing Pathfinder in CC 2018
I teach InDesign and the practicality of Pathfinders in InDesign.
Now it’s gone missing, no explanation !!
Disappointed and worried. What is your point ?1 voteThis looks like an issue with corrupt application preferences file.
Please see if clearing out the application preferences by following the steps mentioned here : (https://forums.adobe.com/message/2404821#2404821) makes the issue go away. -
Rendering of Bitmaps with High Sierra not as smooth as they should be.
Since upgrading to High Sierra, I am finding in High Quality Display, bitmaps are not rendering smoothly on screen or in print.
Exporting to PDFs gets over this, but not great when composing, and needing to see images as they will be.
1 voteHi,
Can you please add a screenshot for this issue.
Also, is GPU enabled on your machines?
