[ID-4246352]NIKKUD (accents/diacritics) selection has become invisible
InDesign version: v20 (both Mac & PC)
Hebrew letters can use NIKKUD - vocalization diacritical marks (function like Vowels) under/above the letter.
- In previous versions (-2023) it was possible to select only the NIKKUD (attached image) of the letter. (in order to specify the position of the NIKKUD using the Diacritic Positioning panel or to change color, etc.)
- In the current version (2024-2025) the selection is on the entire letter, and there is no visual indication whether the letter or the NIKKUD is selected (attached image).
Note: Sometimes there are two NIKKUD characters and even in such a case in the past it was possible to choose each separately (attached image)
Hi,
We have been able to reproduce the issue and it is currently under investigation.

Great news: You can go to Indesign> Edit> Preferences > Advanced Type and select Enable Legacy Text Shaping for Adobe World-Ready Composer to switch back to the older/legacy text-shaping engine for Adobe World-ready Composer.
this should resolve it!!

@Joel Hakoune - I suffer from the same problem with left/right arrows. It's terrible!
I didn't have time to document and describe this in order to report a bug.
If you will report it I will gladly support.
ID 19 is not usable for RTL languages. -

It's practically impossible to use RTL since version 19. It's really crucial to solve all those issues ASAP. For instance, when i place the cursor at a certain place in the document, i use the right/left arrow to move to the next character, it simply jumps to another line!!! It's impossible to edit text like that.
Thanks. -

By the way, the problems were not solved in version 19.1

The problems that Raphael pointed out are not the only problems. They are just some of the problems.
Other problems we were exposed to:
Hebrew letters disappear after Drop Cap.
Punctuation marks disappear or appear in the wrong position in a PDF file (even when it is correct in InDesign)
Reverting to the previous engine using the script does not solve all problems. The desired solution is to stop using the failed World-ready engine, and enable Hebrew support for the regular Adobe Composer engine. It's not complicated, just give it the option to write from right to left and everything will be fine.

I inadvertently opened a document in the new version and it almost gave my proofreader a heart attack (and me serious palpitations) ...

There are several very serious bugs with Hebrew that I have reported in Bug ID-4244890
1. you cannot select diacritics.
2. when diacritics have mark to mark positioning, the positioning changes. The above two very serious bugs can be solved by running your script hidden on your website that disables the harfbuzz engine.
3. periods that appears at the end of a Hebrew sentence, especially if there is an English word, disappear when exporting to pdf.
4. Hebrew sentences that have a number of English words can display incorrectly in InDesign with the pillcrow appearing in the middle of the line and when exporting, the text can disappear and move. The workaround is to revert to InDesign 18.5.
