Key Commands not working
Sometimes when I open up an InDesign document none of my key commands work (I'm on the most up to date version of InDesign CC).
I end up having to close the file and restart the program to get them to work again. I have had instances in the past where I have 2 documents open at the same time and the key commands work in one but not the other.
Does anyone else ever have this issue?

Still having a problem with this in InDesign CC 2021. When program is launched, "command-N" results in no new document being created. "Command-N" is grayed out in the "file" menu. Selecting "File - new document" seems to work, as does pressing the "create new" button on the home screen. Running Mac os 11.4 Big Sur and InDesign 16.2.1

Thank you for any suggestions besides beating the computer with a hammer!! (Just kidding) -

Haven't had it in at least six months, but it's happened several times over the years. Now I'm on a corporate CC account, and suddenly I lose zoom, spacebar, even calling up the keyboard shortcuts palette.
Easy to reproduce: It only happens when you're in a crunch, trying to complete several large projects.

I have the same issue as reported below on 12/12/2018, but also when using cmd+o to Open. Once I have used File>Open after launching ID, the keyboard shortcut begins to work.
"I have the same issue. Upon opening InDesign 14 on iMac, High Sierra, the cmd+n keyboard command does not work. Once I go to File/New/Document to successfully create a new document, the keyboard command starts to work and continues working without a restart. But it does this every time I start InDesign."

Shift key seems redundant now along with all of the key features that it use to perform like proportionately scaling and creating straight lines at at intervals of 45 degrees. Told by Adobe support to recreate short cut keys but 2019 doesn't have most of the tasks available anymore and doesn't let you assign the shift key. We're paying good money for a substandard product.

Same thing here. Restarting did not resolve the problem.

First time opening InDesign 2019, I hit cmd-n and it bonked. Had to make new document from the menu. Quit and relaunched the app and this time cmd-n worked properly.
