ID crashes when exporting to PDF, but not to JPEG
I'm using InDesign 13.1 for a simple 12 page booklet (see attached)
First issue: ID was doing background work on a file for about 4 days and then ID crashed. Now whenever I open the program it asks me if I want to do "Automatic Recovery" for the file. If I click YES or CANCEL the program crashes. If I click NO the program stays open and I can continue to work. But if I go to export the 12 page booklet to PDF it crashes.
I have: (1) uninstalled and reinstalled ID; (2) tried to export the file to a JPEG (which did NOT crash ID); (3) tried to export a different file to PDF (ID crashed);
There's nothing unusual about fonts or graphics here. My ID skills are very VERY basic. Thoughts? Help? PLEASE?
Hi,
Thanks for reporting the issue. We have been able to locally reproduce the issue that refers to “ID crashes when exporting to PDF, but not to JPEG”

Hello! I'm having the exact same issue with one file. The most difficult page is page 1 as well, if I so much as think about the cover page ID crashes... But more literally, it's a text box that I can't touch without crashing it.
It's a big End of Year report too, 56 pages, when we originally printed it I had to export Jpeg's, just like you, and compile a pdf from that.
This also leaves me with nothing editable to make new changes on, which is pretty upsetting to my marketing team.
If you've had any successes or found any solid fixes or things to avoid, I'd love to hear it.

@Micheal, Thanks for reporting the issue. I am investigating this issue with the document shared by you.
@ Kelly Philiphs, the crash you are talking about while working with fonts-->type menu is different than what is reported by Michael. Please start a different thread for this.

The issue appears to be connected with the font SnellRoundhand.ttc associated with "2018". I can open the file if I have it installed but I can't change it (because using Type > Find Fonts crashes InDesign). If I don't have it installed then I can't open the file because it crashes while on the missing fonts page. (Also, if you hide "2018" in the Layers panel then you can create a PDF without it.) Any interaction whatsoever at all with that particular text frame - even if you try and change the style associated with it - will cause InDesign to crash.

(Fortunately) I've never experienced anything like it. The good news is you can write a PDF of pages 2-12, because only something on page one is broken. When I click on one of the two text frames (Gala, 2018), ID crashes. What that could be is unfortunately not within my area of competence.
Anyway, here's a link to a duplicate of your complete file, but the evil two text frames. https://we.tl/xuQ6EYppFd
If your prefer to use your own document (or the content filter deleted the link), hit Alt+A and then Delete or Backspace NOT Alt+X and rebuild your cover page.
