Place Gun Enhancement
We use InDesign in our printing department to place images for printing on our Epson Printers.
At the moment we have page templates with Auto-Fit frames placed and ready to accept the various sizes of supplied images (clients always manage to supply images to the wrong dimensions). Here's what we do :
1. Call up a template.
2. CMD-D to load the Place Gun with multiple files (anything from 2 to 50 - sometimes more).
3. Click in each frame to place the loaded images. Here's where I believe the procedure could be enhanced - in fact it's the only…

Dynamic text for Indesign please…..
It would save so much time — while Dynamic Text isn’t perfect in Photoshop Beta, it’s still great. Since InDesign is such a typographic powerhouse, though, it would make even more sense there — far more control, styles, and layout flexibility.

Make "align stroke to outside" actually align the stroke to the outside, like it used to.
When you set a bounding box to align the stroke to the outside, it used to mean that...the stroke was aligned to the outside of the bounding box. I thought that was the whole point of that setting. Now the bounding box is outside of the stroke no matter what you set it to. I can't imagine any possible reason for this. Now if I want to position any element properly, I have to remove the stroke temporarily. Please change it back?

Arched Text similar to Illustrators Envelope.
I would love to see your team make an envelope “arching text” type of option similar to how Illustrator does it, especially if it could maintain its text editing capabilities. This would be very helpful because there are times when I am doing a Banner or Plaque or some other type of layout and the client requests arched text for the individuals names, and this can sometimes number in the range of 50-75 names. And having the arched text feature would allow me to create a master page for the general design template, and link the text boxes so the…

Scroll through placed multi-page PDFs or InDesign documents within InDesign
Essentially, make the Show Import Options Preview panel directly accessible inside InDesign.
This would save me a considerable amount of time.

An options to place InDesign files into a document as spreads
Scenario: I have a a load of menus, A3 double sided folded in half, designed in two double page spreads. Client wants wide format prints of each menu ganged up on one sheet.
It would save quite some time if I could place the menu files into another document as spreads rather single pages.

Add "Align to guides" option in Align panel
It would be useful to add to the options already present in the Align panel (selection, page, margin, key object) also "align to guides": the selected object would be aligned to the first nearest guide, vertically or horizontally, depending on the button pressed (top, right, left, bottom).

Ability to change the DEFAULT setting for Object Layer Options to 'Use PDF's Layer Visibility'
Offer a way (ideally in preferences) to change the default setting in Object Layer Options for "When Updating Link" to be set to either 'Keep Layer Visibility Overrides' OR 'Use PDF's Layer Visibility'.
At present it always defaults to 'Keep Layer Visibility Overrides,' and adjustments have to be made manually.

Add macOS Core Image Filters as Native Object Effects in InDesign (e.g., Vibrancy, Gaussian Blur, Glass Distortion)
Please add support for macOS Core Image filters (e.g., CIGaussianBlur, CIVibrancy, CIBloom, CIGlassDistortion) as native, real-time object effects within InDesign. These filters are already GPU-accelerated and supported natively by macOS. Tapping into this framework would allow InDesign to offer real-time visual effects like frosted glass, material-style blurs, and ambient glow — without the need to pre-render images in Photoshop.
For designers: Effects like vibrancy, translucency, blur, and light diffusion are increasingly common in modern design — not just in UI/UX, but in packaging, promotional layouts, and publication work. These are time-consuming to fake using raster-based workarounds. Having real-time effects within…

Add Native Slug Area and Mechanical Dimensioning Tools (Inspired by Mechanical Cubed + Illustrator's Dimensions Tool)
As a freelance Production Designer and Creative with a fine arts background, I work across pharma, retail, and packaging—where detailed mechanicals, slug data, and precise dimension callouts are a daily necessity. One of the most essential—but frustratingly missing—features in InDesign is the ability to efficiently manage mechanical specs and slug information natively.
To bridge this gap, many of us rely on plug-ins like Mechanical Cubed and Slug Cubed from Triple Triangle Inc. These tools automate the placement and consistency of critical production data—such as trim, bleed, dimensions, and job metadata—directly into the slug area.
Interestingly, Adobe Illustrator already includes a…

Possibility to insert multi-language variables in one document
I would like to be able to insert multilingual variables in InDesign, within a single document. I often have to produce multilingual documents and have to insert dates, texts and so on.... I would like to be able to insert these variables in different layers of a document (e.g. ‘Italian’ layer = Italian text variable; ‘English’ layer = English text variable and so on).
I think this could be a good function to add in future versions.

Include bit depth (8/16/32 bits per channel) as an item to be included in the Links panel (or at least in the Info panel).
I know that bit depth is included in XMP File Info but as this panel is modal (and overly high) it is tedious to fetch this information from there. It would be convenient to have both in Links and Info panels. Possibly these panels could be updated with other useful data, too,. This is useful as HDR is becoming increasingly popular, and while PDFs can include 32-bit images, I'd imagine they are problematic in press.

Auto size headshots in frames based on a "key object" frame
Similar to how Photoshop has facial recognition, a lot of the time in my job I have to place many headshots in a grid of frames, etc. and they're not all the same resolution, crop or size. It would be awesome to have a feature that lets you select all of the frames with face photos, then click one of the frames like setting the "key object" and then InDesign will size the headshot images within the rest of the frames to match the cropping of the "key object" so everything looks consistent.

Custom organization of links panel
Options within Links Panel to sort links not by name/page/location folder, but into custom folders or priority. Allow users to place links at the top that are changed or edited more frequently. Current issue is job requires me to change multiple logo files spread throughout document quickly. If multiple instances are grouped, sorting by layer does not work and layer will also sort by layer name and not top layer. Letting users set priority status to links or create & name custom folders within the links panel can help find things quickly.

Global Edit
It would be extremely helpful to have a global edit feature like Illustrator. For example, I created a 2 layer text "graphic" to use as an indicator multiple times across a 12 page document. Once it printed, I realized the opacity was too high so it wasn't legible. Now I have to go and edit each individual instance of the exact same item or edit, and paste/duplicate it all over again. If Global Edit was a feature, I could select the object, select Global Edit, and make changes 1 time applying it to ever other instance automatically.
