Flash Player should not be required to play non-Flash video in PDFs
Currently Interactive PDFs exported from InDesign require Flash to be installed for videos to be viewed. This is true even when the video is an MP4, and when the settings in Acrobat are set so it uses the Windows/Mac native video player.
Non-Flash videos should not require a Flash player. The PDF 2.00 specification allows for media in Interactive PDFs... but with Flash going away in 2020 we need a solution to continue showing media files in PDFs.

I am doing an InDesign file now, that I need videos to be inserted into. How do I get around this annoying issue? Have you all come up with a solution?

Please fix this! We need videos to be accessible in Adobe PDFS without the use of flash. Our videos and audio in PDFs require controls that are not reliant on flash.

It is possible to play video files in Acrobat in 2021, and the design workflow is very much unchanged from the days of Flash. As long as you are using native video formats (i.e. not SWF or FLV) you should be able to export Interactive PDFs from InDesign with video. The issue/warning message seems to stem from a a legacy Acrobat setting. Simply go to your Preference window in Adobe Acrobat and in the "3D and Multimedia" panel deselect "Use Flash Player for playing 3D and multimedia content". Why oh why this setting has not been removed by the Acrobat team or the Flash Uninstaller baffles me but, Adobe. Hopefully a software update will resolve this issue for the many millions of users that this impacts as it's not an obvious one. In the meantime we may need to advise our clients/end users to update their PDF preference in order for this to work smoothly. I hope this helps some of you out there who have been looking for a workable solution. Note: This comment is based on the latest release of InDesign 16.0.2 and Acrobat Pro DC (2020.013.20074) as of 28th January on Mac OS, with Flash Player uninstalled.

and now with the flash player deadend and no adobe support, playing an interactive pdf created in indesign with audio and video cannot be played in Acrobat DC

Is that difficult to serve your customers with what they need instead of your petty fights with Apple? I'll need to move to other software to create my PDF's which is crazy.

Definitely agree, particularly as it does not mention it being a problem in the movies and sound help page here:

I completely agree... times a million.
