Viewing bleeds on two-page spread
Would be nice if any objects that bleed off the binding edge would be cropped to the page edge when viewed as a two-page spread.

Apply Multiple Master Pages per Page (Akin to Layers)
Ideally, InDesign would treat master pages like layers. In this manner, a variable number of master pages could be applied to any page, allowing for more efficient and quicker customization of page layout. For example, a user might set up the following master pages:
A-Body (1 Col.)
B-Body (2 Col.)
C-Body (Fig. or Table)
D-Header (Full)
E-Header (Partial)
F-Footer (Full)
G-Footer (Partial)In this example, the many possible combinations, such as AD, AF, ADF, AE, AG, AEG, BD, etc. (based on layout needs) wouldn't need to be created. More importantly, as in styles based on parent styles, changes would effectively…

Tabbing Sequence in Properties window
When changing an open document's size from Properties window, pressing tab after changing the 'Width' takes you to 'Number of pages' field instead of 'Height' field.
When working quickly this can disrupt productivity, especially when you're waiting to have '297 pages' created instead of simply changing the canvas to 297mm height. A minor but convenient change.

Hide/Filter pages in pages panel AND navigation
I got myself in a workflow where I would have a document having sections organised like that : title page / content page / title page / content page…
I have to go back and forth between the content pages, and sometimes between the title pages.
That helps to compare what has changed and what’s consistent between the pages.
So I try to not distract my eye by either going to the pages panel or by ctrl-page up with the « title pages » interruption (think about the (now long gone) photoshop cmd-Z to undo/redo and spot differences. If Title…

Create Document Template Based on Current Document
Create an absolutely empty document with settings and styles based on an open document.
Sometimes we need to create a document template based on a ready one. You need to keep all styles, master pages, color sets, etc. At the same time, the working pages should remain empty.

Adding a separate pages or extract pages as individual pages feature.
Working in a newspaper environment, our layout clerk sets up our paper in sections. If our A Section is 12 pages, she sets it up as a 12 page section and dummies the advertisements on the pages. When our editorial staff grabs the pages to do their jobs, they need to be able to work on each page individually, not as one full document. It would be extremely beneficial (without having to "MOVE PAGES" or copy and paste) if our layout clerk could separate or export the document as individual indesign pages. Our layout and editorial departments are currently transitioning…

The KEYBOARD INCREMENTS part of Units and Increments preferences should application level not document level.
I have to go into this panel multiple times a day to change this from 2 to 1.
It should be application level, because it all relates to how much I expect text to move when using keyboard shortcuts. Or at least let me toggle it or override.
I think this is like if my custom keyboard shortcuts were document level and I had to set them back up every time I got a file made by someone else.25 votes -
Several templates for a page / spread
The requirement is to add different templates to a page / spread.
It should be possible to simply combine templates independent of each other. Not based on etc...
The names of templates could then be displayed one beneath another in page list preview. To apply several templates, we could select them at once and drug and drop to the page list preview.
For example – one template for page numbers, another template for logo. Combining different logos and different colors of page numbers will then dramatically reduce the required template quantity.2 votes -

Make smart guides work on the pasteboard
Smart guides are a really helpful feature but they currently do not work on the pasteboard area of a document. I frequently use the pasteboard to create design elements which I then move onto the page. This would be so much easier if we had the same guides functionality across the workspace. There doesn't seem to be any logical reason for smart guides to stop working once you move to the pasteboard.

Save Page(s) as File(s)
I prepare files for a team of 5 designers at my local university. In order for the designers to work on the project they need each page as a separate .indd file. As it would make my life easier and sounds like I don't want to do my job it would increase my workflow immensely.

Complex spread layout and spread containing 10+ pages
We do a lot of large format printing. In some cases we have large displays arranged in rows and columns. Unfortunately it's not possible to arrange pages of a spread in rows and columns like in Illustrator.
I could create a large page and freely arrange smaller pages inside the large page, but that's very limited, because all pages need to be part of the same spread—and spreads itself are limited to 10 pages.28 votes -
Enable Hyperlinks to Stay Live in PDFs ... Even After Importation into InDesign
Hi folks
We have figured out a 'work-around' to the problem of maintaining live hyperlinks in PDFs throughout the entire exporting/importing process in InDesign. However, it's purely a bandaid - although it works well. It would be great to have this process built in as a feature. I've attached a PDF with our workflow methodologies for your review.

Paragraph styles for masters
You should be able to create a blank text box on a master and assign it a paragraph style. Then when you edit a document page based on that master, the text should be formatted according to the paragraph style. It does this already, for the creation of the page. But if you change the paragraph style of the master, there is apparently NO WAY for the new paragraph style to get applied to the document pages based on that master. Which is a huge oversight.

Facing Pages for Spiral Binding
Having the ability to see multiple pages together, without them connected in the center would be helpful for creating things like spiral bound books. This would allow bleeds for each page, while still being able to see the pages together for layouts. This feature would come in handy for more than just spiral bound projects. It would be handy any time you need to see two pages together, while still having bleeds for each page.

Skip Page Numbers
Please create the option of deleting some pages from the numbering sequence. I use tabs in my documents and being able to skip them from the automatic numbering would save me so much time.
