Move from Settings/Advance Type/Character Setting into the Character panel and make it be able to preview the options you are selecting
It would make making changes to superscript or subscript much easier to handle

Establish a display of current baseline grid “increment every ##pt” and also a link to change in the paragraph styles menu.
I teach design at the Univ of MN. I stress the importance of utilizing baseline grids, but students are constantly confused how to establish and modify them despite my best efforts. For how vital baseline grids are, the modification of their settings seem very hidden with the settings panel. Also the language surrounding baseline grid is vague — align to grid could mean the square grid, the column/margins grid, or the baseline grid.
By establishing a display of the current baseline grid settings in the paragraph styles (indents & spacing), a more obvious connection to that grid would be created.…

Native Support for Bibliographic Citations and Plugin Integration with Reference Managers (Zotero, EndNote, Mendeley, etc.)
Unlike Microsoft Word, Adobe InDesign lacks built-in tools for managing bibliographic citations, in-text references, and automated bibliography generation. This is a major limitation for users creating academic papers, scientific publications, books, theses, or any long-form documents with sources.Currently, we rely on workarounds like:Drafting in Word with citation plugins (e.g., Zotero, EndNote, Mendeley), then placing static text into InDesign.
Third-party scripts (e.g., zot2indd for Zotero), which are unofficial and limited.Requested features:Native dynamic citation fields (similar to Word's References tab) for inserting in-text citations and auto-generating/updating a bibliography.
Official plugin/extension support or API integration for popular reference managers like Zotero, EndNote,…1 vote -
CRITICAL: Restore Hebrew Nikud Functionality in InDesign (Latest Versions) Issue:
Issue: The latest Adobe InDesign versions have broken Hebrew nikud (vowel points) rendering, which worked perfectly in older versions. This is preventing designers, publishers, and educators from properly typesetting Hebrew religious texts, children's books, educational materials, and more.
Impact: Thousands of users working with Hebrew content are either:
Losing productivity and revenueRequest: Please restore full nikud support as it existed in previous versions. This is not a feature request—it's a critical bug fix for a writing system used by millions.
If you work with Hebrew text in InDesign, please vote to prioritize this fix! 🙏

Convert imported bullets to bullets when assigned bulleted style.
When you assign a bulleted paragraph style to pasted or imported text, convert the imported bullets to the paragraph style bullets (instead of treating the imported bullets like the rest of the text resulting in bulleted bullets). It's tedious deleting, either manually or via F&R, all the imported bullets.

Better handling of vertical text on a path
I can't get proper spacing on a vertical list of numbers. inDesign is still treating the spacing as if it's horizontal. None of the 400 numbers are spaced properly. Unfortunately the customer has to use canvas to make it work. InDesign should do this easily and be able to use data merge for numbering.

Produce intuitive result while quad-clicking + pasting replacement text from external source into InDesign on lines with paragraph styling
Currently this behavior causes the pasted text to adopt the paragraph style of a neighboring paragraph instead of retaining the styling of the replaced paragraph. It is probably not a bug but a feature, I feel needs to be changed so it works more intuitively.

Nikud
Please fix the nikud-glyphs, for the new version, because it does not work with the new versions properly.
we can't use the latest version, and we have to stick to the old ones.
This would be for us a great help, so we can enjoy your amazing new version!1 vote -

Precise Text Wrap Control for Column Rules
I love the Column Rules feature in the Text Frame Options Dialogue. What keeps me from using it as often as I'd like is due to how column rules interact with text wrap.
I'd like to have: 1. Numerical control of how rules wrap independent from text in the text wrap dialogue box, or: 2. The ability for rules to be locked to baseline grids. Perhaps having both would give the perfect amount of control?
Please see my screen grab attached. You will see that the body copy wraps as expected, but the column rule does not. It's sticking above…

Would it be possible to add a link to a watermark? When someone wants to crop out the water mark that it re-appears after its was cropped?

Formatting bullet points
Implement a simpler way to format bullet points in InDesign. For example, in Microsoft Word, you can simply hit Enter and then Tab to create a Tier 2 bullet, with predefined spacing. While I understand the use of character styles, tabs, and paragraph styles for bullets, it often takes me and my colleagues a long time to remember how to format them correctly. I love typesetting, but the bullet formatting always trips me up!

Option to ignore hidden spreads while auto checking spelling or find/change etc.
There are a few posts surrounding hidden spreads. Perhaps all these could be view as a whole when tackling.
My specific feature request is that automated text editing functions such as Find/Change and Spell check have an option to disregard content on hidden spreads. Currently the checking process for each of these (and possibly others such a replace font etc.) is interrupted by having found object on hidden spreads and requires that they be unhidden to progress. Keeping spreads hidden is not an option as clicking OK to the prompt that pops up ends the checking process.
Also while considering…

Line-Based Paragraph Shading Option
Currently, InDesign’s Paragraph Shading feature applies shading across the entire width of the paragraph, regardless of the actual length of the text on each line. This often results in large shaded areas extending far beyond the end of the text, which is visually unappealing and requires complex workarounds.
Please add an option to apply paragraph shading per line, so that the shading extends only as far as the text on that line. This would allow for much cleaner typography, especially in cases like poetry, short line breaks, lists, or multi-line titles.

Preflight incorrectly flagging Adobe fonts as "protected"
Adobe InDesign's preflight is displaying an incorrect message whenever Adobe fonts have been used in artwork. The specific warning is "Fonts not allowed: Protected" and then suggests to change the font to something else.
I feel that Indesign is false-flagging these fonts as they behave differently to other fonts that are usually installed or referenced on a user's machine. If anything, the preflight shouldn't warn about them at all if they are correctly loaded.1 vote -
Upgrade font selection dialog to match new Illustrator format and capabilities
The Illustrator team are upgrading the font selection dialog, so that there are now three versions: Photoshop's, InDesign's, and Illustrator's. At this point (September 2025), the Illustrator beta is the most capable and flexible.
