Hi all,
Thanks for the detailed feedback on this thread. Reopening it, because we're still actively working on the issue. A few updates:
Relinking: the case where manually entered alt text was overwritten by generated alt text on relink was fixed in 21.4. If you're still seeing manual alt text get overwritten after relinking, reply here with a sample file and your InDesign version and we'll investigate directly.
Remove all generated alt text: an option to remove all generated alt text from a document in a single action is on the way.
We hear the wider feedback here too, and we're keeping this open while we work through it.

An error occurred while saving the comment Version 21.0 -- It's happening every few minutes as I'm editing text in my documents. People on the Adobe Community forums have been reporting it as an ongoing bug so maybe you could update your response to acknowledge the return of this old problem.

Fix for this issue is available in the latest InDesign 2026 release (21.2.0.30) and InDesign 2025 LTS release (20.5.2.078), please update to this release from CCD app.

An error occurred while saving the comment This is happening to me after the 2026 InDesign update. Sometimes I will change some text and can't even undo that more than two steps. I'm on a remote cloud computer so there's little I can do to improve RAM or anything so your extremely delayed solution better not involve anything with that.

An error occurred while saving the comment Not to mention, ligatures are digitally inaccessible to people using screenreaders and cannot be corrected by remediation software. The word "little" becomes "li[]le" for no reason at all and for some unfathomable reason, Adobe wants that as their default.

An error occurred while saving the comment Yes please! Even Word allows for making row headers so it's shocking I can't do that in the supposedly much more powerful InDesign.
Your AI generated alt text is garbage, and it's beyond insulting that you would push that 2013-era Word quality trash as the default when it is known to override custom alt text.
