Try closing the document that shows the Background Tasks as queued. If the Auto-Activate Adobe Fonts option has been selected and you are connected to the internet, fonts in your document should get auto-activated.
Please try once again and let us know.—
Adobe InDesign teamAn error occurred while saving the comment Yvonne Hubner commentedThis does not work... I'm on InDesign v19.0 and still often run into this looping background task trying to activate fonts. Have totally rebooted the app. Please get this fixed.

An error occurred while saving the comment Yvonne Hubner commentedMe too, flickering and glitchy graphics. Changing text often disappears... and often crashes by itself when idling at night. MBP M1 Pro with Benq PD3220U 4k monitor. InDesign is very very very buggy, so annoying.
I am also having this annoying issue!
