Moving objects from one layer to another one
I group some objects, move them from layer 1 to layer 2. I cut them out to set it on the master and ungroup them. They jump back to layer 1.
Version: InDesign 20.5 on Mac OS Sequoia 15.6.1

Easier way: do not group them, just select the 4 objects in the one page, then copy and paste to master page, then use the little blue square (click & drag) to move them all at once to the red layer.

Thanks Rudo, I did not know that there is an option for that. So I guess it was always off.

Uncheck "Ungroup remembers layers" in Layers palette menu.
