Creating a catalogue with a large table FREEZING in indesign CC 2019
We've been making a large catalogue pricelist for over 13 years using indesign.
We're now stuck on the 2017 (12.1.0) version.
We want to update it, but in the latest version, importing our pricelist from excel into a table, slows the whole thing down to an unworkable speed.
info:
the table is around 13000 rows by 10 columns. so not small.
it does import in the 2017 version. slow to import in both, but can use and work on after import in 2017 version.
2019, freezes when scroll used, and take 1-3 mins to unfreeze. Scroll again or do anything much else and freezes again.
I can see it's using 100% of 1 CPU core. And I know Indesign is built in a way that it can only use 1 CPU core! (please fix this!!!!)

Same here with InDesign 2020.
It does seem to use all of the cores, but 7th is abut 70% constantly the rest of them are peaks from 0-100. -

I have a very similar issue with imported tables from Word. It slows down InDesign to a crawl and makes it essentially useless. I have no idea when or how the corruption happens (the slowdown happens pretty gradually in my case).
A workaround that I found is to cut and paste the tables from the problematic file into a new InDesign document making sure that the spaces where the tables were previously placed are deleted and the styles applied to that space are deleted as well (I used a paragraph style to span the tables over multiple columns). Then I cut all the remaining text and images and paste that into a different new InDesign document as well. Finally I cut and paste the tables back into the document that has the text and images. I also make sure not to copy any spaces around the tables before pasting it into the new document.
My guess is that it has something to do with the formatting between text and tables in Word. I think this because when I separate the tables from the text in Word, paste each into it's own separate Word document, then remove all formatting from the tables and the text documents, and then place them into the InDesign file one by one, I do not get the same issue with slow down. It's cumbersome but it worked for me. I hope this makes sense... my head is spinning just from typing that. -

Any progress? I've tried using a 3rd party plugin EasyCatalog to pull my data in to InDesign in a more efficient way. This works and looks great, but still have the FREEZING when scrolling. about 1-2 mins per scroll, it's horrible! All in CC2019. In the 2017 version it works with scrolling. What is causing the lagging?
What is in all versions of CC indesign above 2017 that isn't in 2017 version??
I've turned preflight off , reduced default quality to lowest settings, none of this helps it seems.
All help is greatly appreciated
