  1. Multi-level lists

    1. VERSION: 19.4

    2. ISSUE: If you create a multi-level list (1, 1.1, 1.2.3, etc) and export as an accessible PDF the list structure is not correct and presents the incorrect "List level" to the reader when using any assistive technology.

EXPECTED RESULTS: When a new level of a list is created the sublist's <L> goes INSIDE the <LBody> tag to properly indicate the list is sublevel.

ACTUAL RESULTS: In the most recent build of InDesign, the <L> is just a sibling of the <LBody>. This is not only incorrect an a violation of PDF/UA-1, it also requires fixing EVERY TIME you…

  2. button value

Broken in 18.3 and 19.5: Non-ASCII text in the "Button Value" field in the "Buttons and Forms" panel fails to export to interactive PDF.

    To reproduce this issue:
    1) Create a radio button
    2) Add non-ASCII text to the "Button Value" field
    3) Export to Interactive PDF
    4) Look at the mouseover tooltip and see that the Button Value has lost any glyphs beyond U+00FF.

I've attached a PDF file demonstrating the issue.

  3. Scripting bug with Book files and the new EPUB Page Navigation option

In InDesign 19.4 on macOS 14.4.1, the document.epubExportPreferences.epubCreatePageNavigation and book.epubExportPreferences.epubCreatePageNavigation properties are supposed to allow scripts to toggle the reflowable EPUB "page navigation" option on and off. However, only the document.epubExportPreferences.epubCreatePageNavigation property functions properly. The book.epubExportPreferences.epubCreatePageNavigation doesn't do anything. Regardless of whether it is "true" or "false", the output always includes the page break markers when outputting reflowable ePub from a book file via scripting.

  4. Trouble having more than 1 INDD file open

I can't open more than 1 INDD file at a time. I need to copy and paste from sections of one INDD into another. It will lock. You have to force it to quit. I lose time and my changes. My IT department at work said to contact Adobe. What should I do?

  5. Wondering why indesign Character & Paragraph side panels don't work anymore and are blank.

Why indesign Character & Paragraph side panels don't work anymore and are blank. This is very annoying and sometimes is fixed when you close out the program and reboot but that only works when the stars are aligned correctly.

  6. Table Stroke adjusment panel

On the Table Stroke adjustment panel, the thin blue lines are difficult to see for someone with color deficient vision or reduced visual acuity. I suggest increasing the width of the highlighted stroke to indicate which are selected.

  7. Apple's Spoken Content not functioning in InDesign 19.2

I use Apple's Spoken Content to have my Mac read my documents back to me as a way of proof reading sections at a time for continuity and structure (something no spell check provides). When I highlight text I want read aloud and hit the keyboard commands for Spoken Content, the Mac reads the actual file name of the document! If I copy and paste the text into a .indd file for InDesign 18.5.1 and repeat the steps, it works correctly and reads my text out loud. It works if I open any .indd file that is not saved in…

  8. Incorrect reading order for anchored objects

InDesign is placing text and objects in the incorrect reading order when exporting to accessible PDF when an anchored object is anywhere but at the bottom of the page. Instead of placing the anchored object/group of objects in the correct order, it is placing them at the end of the reading order. An example would be an anchored group of a placed Illustrator graph and it's title text box.

  9. cursor stuck on hand

My system has just updated InDesign to 19.1 (08/01/24) and I now have a grabber hand cursor appearing every time I try and click on anything in my file.

This also happens if I have another tool selected such as text box. The tool icon appears but if I click on a text box the hand comes back. It's rendered doing anything in InDesign files useless. I can't find a setting for it and I have tried resetting preferences but it is still happening. My computer system is running Ventura 13.6.

Does anyone have a work around?

  10. User Generated Templates that can be Accessed from the Home Screen

It would be very helpful to be able to access user generated templates from the home screen, similar to presets. This will allow teams to quickly access documents and keep layouts consistent, instead of taking time to search for templates on the network.

  11. Assign new shortcut for hiding panels while inside a text box don't work (Mac 12.7.4 ID2023)

    InDesign 18.5.2
    Mac 12.7.4

Please read and try to create it in order to see the problem. some users reported it works for a few times, but later stopped.

    Hello,
I have a need to hide/show panels except the toolbox which is here:

Product area : Views, Navigation > Show/Hide all panels except toolbox --- Default: Shift+Tab

Of course this shortcut will not work when my cursor is inside a text box so I added a shortcut when the "Text" context is selected so it will work in this way too: Text: Ctrl+Tab

While doing so I made sure [unassigned]…

  12. InDesign Not Exporting Forms Correctly

InDesign 18.5 is not exporting form fields correctly. The fields have a description, which corresponds to a tooltip in Acrobat. The fields fail the Acrobat accessibility checker, which states they do not have a description. They do, but InDesign is not exporting it correctly. The only way to correct this is to delete and rebuild the form fields over and over and over until the error clears.

  13. Errors in file creation means that some devices cannot open epub file. ID Version 19.3

    E-Pub checker defines issues consistently
"data-idGenAnimationEndState" is not a valid custom data attribute (it must have at least one character
after the hyphen, be XML-compatible, and not contain ASCIl uppercase letters). The errors are always in reference to lines 17 and 20 in the code. When I attempted to load the file I received notice: The (ID created files) are 'not supported' and cannot be uploaded to this site. The publications with these errors contain gifs. They play ok on my mac and android devices though not on some similar devices.

  14. accessibility export to pdf worked before in 18.5 its now broken in v19

Working in v19 with an exsiting file and when exporting to PDF it lists dozens of problems in the accessibility check which did not happen previously.
Gone back to version 18.5 which works fine with exactly the same file.

  15. Paint and lines disappear

Indesign 2023, Mac OS 12 Monterey (other similar reports in Catalina and win10)

    Phenomenon
Fill and line disappears when copying an object.

    Reproduction procedure
    1. Select an object with fill and line to surround it with the direct selection tool.
    2. Grab the anchor point and copy by option+drag.
    3. The object without fill or line is copied.

The same result can be obtained by selecting an object to enclose with the direct selection tool, and then copying with the Object menu > Transform > Move.
If you select an object by clicking directly on the fill area without surrounding…

  16. Actual text duplicated as Alt-text on images in a list

When setting only actual text on images in a list, the images output with actual text but also Alt-text. This unnecessarily repeats information to assistive technology.

When the same image with only actual text is inside a paragraph instead, the actual text (and no Alt-text) correctly outputs to the PDF.

This happens in 19.0.1 (2024), and it happens in 2023.

  17. Reading order issue when a footnote is split over to next page or column

When a footnote split over to next page or column, the accessible PDF generated from InDesign CC 2023 has notes reading order messed up. The first note reference on the page where the portion of a note comes in from the previous page/column reads the continued note text and likewise the second note reference reads the first note and so on. Eventually the last note is read at the end regardless it's note reference. It's a serious issue because not only the reading order needs to be fixed for the last note on the page that has splitting to the…

  18. Reading order of footnotes is incorrect for multi-column layouts

InDesign is not placing footnotes correctly in the reading order when generating accessible PDFs for layouts with more than one column. Instead of placing the footnotes at the bottom of the page's reading order, InDesign is placing them at the end of the first column, interrupting the reading order.

Also, after correcting the reading order by placing the footnote(s) at end, Acrobat reports a 'Tagged Annotations - Failed' error for the footnote or the first footnote in a block of footnotes when it is a hyperlink.

  19. Incorrect coding of ligatures in placed Illustrator files

InDesign is not encoding ligatures in placed Illustrator files correctly when generating accessible PDFs via the Export/Adobe PDF (Interactive) command. Accessibility Check in Acrobat reports all ligatures in Illustrator files as 'Character Encoding - Failed'.

macOS 14, all CC apps up to date.
