Please add a status bar displaying the progress of InDesign creating a PDF file. There is no way of knowing when the process has completed.
The progress can already be seen in the Background Tasks panel in InDesign.
We can also see the progress on the Top bar of InDesign.
Thanks
Javed

This does the trick for me:
https://creativepro.com/a-new-workaround-for-that-pesky-background-export-issue/It disables background tasks and adds (or brings back) the progress bar.

A "Progress bar' does not exist. An activity spinner does but there is no other way of seeing the 'progress'. I have had PDFs 'spin' endlessly because of an issue - then stop spinning, having a progress bar would help see what is occurring.

What do you do when the Top Bar (is it called the Application Bar) has disappeared? The toggle from regular view to preview is not at the bottom of the toolbar, but the pdf progress bar seems to be gone.

... or you disable the asynchron export: create an empty file: DisableAsyncExports.txt
copy this file to: /Applications/Adobe InDesign XX/Adobe InDesign XX.app/Contents/MacOS/ (Mac)
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign XX\ (Win) -

There is a panel for that - quite helpful:
Window>Untilities>Background Tasks

Well, if you click on the icon (with the stack of short lines) that is displayed when you create a pdf, you can see the process.
