Fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign 2020 – that is, InDesign 15.0.1
In the Creative Cloud Desktop application, click on the Updates section on the left. You should be able to see the Update available for InDesign. Please update your InDesign application to this version to try out the fix.
If you have created documents from ID15.0 where you see this issue, please do a Force Recomposition of the Text Frames (Cmd-Opt-/ on Mac, Ctrl-Alt-/ on Win) to make it work correctly.
Let us know in the comments section if you face any problem with the updation process.

An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedIt would be nice if text variables had their own panel. I configure workspaces to go with the templates I make for other people, and they frequently have trouble remembering where to find the text variables from the top menu since it's not visible in the workspace like the other tools I've setup for them (i.e. paragraph styles, hyperlinks).

An example of this issue is attached. The horizontal magenta line shows the vertical center of each circle. Each circular text box is set to vertically align text at its text's ascent. There is no inset spacing on the smaller circles where the inconsistencies are occurring, but notice how adding or deleting a space character shifts the baseline. My team is also experiencing inconsistent changes in the vertical alignment like this when creating soft line breaks, changing text point size, etc.—but those are harder to reproduce in placeholder copy.
