Inline footnotes and multi-column footnotes are a must.

Book panel is a special type of panel that is always associated with the .INDB file – unlike other panels where there is no actual association with a file on disk. The panel also shows the name of the Book file. If that INDB file is deleted, then the panel does not have any meaning.
Only when the Book file is opened is the Book panel available. So it can’t be part of a workspace & thus its size and location also can’t be fixed as there could be multiple Book files that can be opened simultaneously.

I've accidentally moved a document in the book panel many times. In a long book, when page numbering is automatic, it can take a long time for the move to complete. And then you have to move the document back, if you remember where it should go. and if there are cross-references in any documents, the move (and move back) take longer again.

So, yes, the ability to lock documents would be very welcome.

This is indeed badly needed. There are days when I have to dismiss the missing-font dialogs many times, and it gets very tedious.

There's a simple work-around for this: insert a discretionary break character before the first letter of the paragraph, then, with the cursor between the discr break and the first letter, apply kerning.
