What you are missing would be something that applies not just for TIFFs, but for all images with white background, including those not supporting transparency. That's not the way to do it. TIFFs support transparency, so when placing a TIFF which doesn't have a white background, Indesign would only show the content. Or you simply remove the white background from the TIFF with a graphics tool. Or there is a clipping path in the TIFF, like you would use it for JPEGs, which cuts off the background.

My Indesign only add _folder to the folder name it packages in, not on file names.

When the PDF is opened after export by the option "View PDF after exporting" it opens the default PDF viewer which, in most cases, has an option to send the PDF via mail. Why not use this?
I would not second this, as I like my ID to remember where I ended up last time. Like Acrobat remembers different paths for "Save as" and "Replace".
