We have made some Performance Improvements in the latest InDesign Release 2025 (Version 20.1), available via Creative Cloud Desktop application. This issue has also been fixed as part of performance improvements.
Please let us know if you still face slowdown while doing basic operations in this latest InDesign release.

Agreed. It literally takes two seconds now to begin to select text, or to switch from one tool to another. I'm using an iMac with 32 GB of RAM and a i9 processor. This version of InDesign is hot garbage.

Came here to say this. To make matters worse, I have to keep a dang text file handy to help me remember where each Adobe application keeps this option, because they can't be bothered to agree.

I would love to send the Color Theme tool to proverbial **** so it stops hiding the Eyedropper tool that I use hundreds of times a day.

It's immediately slow, and all the time. Even after a fresh restart of the whole computer. I noticed it was unusable garbage after one minute of use. You cannot expect us to believe you thoroughly tested this cr@p before you sent it out the door and didn't notice the issue.
