The fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2025(v20.3.1.073). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application click on the context menu on the top right, and click on Check for App Updates.

Currently, you can do almost all of the above (except #5) with a 3rd-party add-on called Footwork: https://www.id-extras.com/products/footwork/

Currently this can only be done with a (not-free) 3rd-party add-on called Footwork: https://www.id-extras.com/products/footwork/

I agree, this needs to be added to InDesign!
Until then, there's this (not free) script, that lets you autofit column widths, and even to redistribute the remaining columns widths afterwards. Worth checking out!

It's a real pain that InDesign can't do this natively.
Until Adobe adds it, there is this: https://www.id-extras.com/products/autofit-columns

This is a completely obvious feature request and should have been included when the graphic cell feature was rolled out.
