I have a document with one small link, two text boxes, and a filled box. I selected all but one text box and tried to move them to another layer (only two layers in the file), and it just won't do it for the longest time. Just trying to resize a text box with one of its anchors takes 5 or 6 tries of clicking and dragging all over before it actually reacts. I never thought I'd say this, but Microsoft Word is working smoother than InDesign right now.

UPDATE: After I took the time to write the comment above, I was finally able to move my items to the 2nd layer. Now I'm waiting for my Layers Palette to collapse--clicking it several time does nothing. The constant lag is excruciating.

    InDesign 16.0.1 x64

In my case, when I use cross references in a table, paragraph number cross references work fine in the space, but page number cross references do not. In the screenshots below, "Pages 2-3" are both cross references using the same cross reference and paragraph styles. The only difference between the 2, is that the 2nd one is in a much wider text box than the one in the table. Notice that the cross reference, "Steps 1-12" is also a cross reference, but it's using paragraph numbers instead of page numbers and it fits no problem, even though there's more text.

The second screenshot shows what happens when I change the problem cross reference to text. It immediately wraps properly (though it didn't remember the text it just had, switching it from 2-3 to 1-1).

I've already tried changing every paragraph composer option available under styles but no change.
What did get the original, Pages 2-3 cross reference to stay on a single line was adjusting the kerning from 10 to -90 which is unacceptable.

Here's details on the font and size I was using, and the table column dimensions.
