Library text frame auto-size error
Product: Adobe InDesign
Version: 20.2
Platform: macOS
Issue type: Bug
Severity: Moderate
Reproducible: Always
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a text frame with a single character (e.g. “X”).
2. Enable Auto-Size (Height only).
3. Save the text frame to the Library.
4. Place the frame into a layout from the Library.
Expected result:
Text frame should retain Auto-Size setting and adjust to the content’s height.
Actual result:
Auto-Size is disabled, and the frame stretches from the insertion point to the bottom of the text frame area / margin, even though there’s only one character inside.
Workaround:
If the text frame is grouped with another object (even an invisible one), and saved to the Library as a group, the bug does not occur. The frame is then saved as a Graphic object in the Library, and Auto-Size works as expected.
Suggested fix:
Ensure that Auto-Size metadata is preserved when saving standalone text frames to the Library, as with grouped objects.
