Indesign freezes when connected via VPN

Indesign freezes when launched/when using VPN client which restricts internet access. Indesign unlocks when VPN client is disabled. (Spinning beach ball)

    When the internet connection stops (due to an active VPN) Indesign becomes very slow, stalls and shows spinning beachballs ...
