Fit frame to content creates duplicate text boxes

Indesign 16.4 on Mac 10.15.3
Selecting multiple text boxes and hitting "fit frame to content" causes all text boxes to duplicate.

    How do you do Fit frame to content, by key command or from menu?
    The screen shot looks as if you doubled the boxes by Alt + mouse drag.
